Anyone know who ran dorber.com?

#1

Post by JosephR »

I have before me a most excellent article that I downloaded last December, entitled "How, When And Where To Fly Fish Lakes." The website was dorber.com which is now "Under Construction" and I can no longer access the article. I'm guessing the owner lost the domain name and someone else snapped it up. In any case, I've noticed that several people in this group are familiar with the site. I'm planning to OCR the article, but there's no author credited and I'd really like to know who wrote it. It's largely because of this article that I'm having a blast fishing our local lakes for bluegills since the nearest trout is about three hours away.

Just to give you an example...

It turned up a bunch here too - that's why I asked. I'll ask FFR too.

Jeff ?? and Ray Baugh?? are the guys behind Dorber rods. Have you tried calling the number on the site?

What site? dorber.com is down, apparently for good. That's the problem.

There's a number beneath the "Under Construction" logo...

DOH! <facepalm>

Tried it and they were closed, but I'll try them again in the morning.

Thanks.

If that doesn't work, look them up in Flippin Arkansas. They are good guys. Or you might contact
Tony Spezio. He lives just up the road from them.

Called the number and spoke with Ray. Jeff's the one who did the web page and he's retired, so my guess at them having lost the domain was obviously off. Ray's going to try to get hold of him to find out who wrote the article and call me back.

Thanks!

Cane,
Love the reference to the " Wayback machine". Great show from my youth.

R.E.B. Ray Brauer - Ray's initials were the front part - Rod was the back part - backwards it is dorber. Or forward the company name - Rebrod.
Ray was the owner - his father Tiny was there a bunch a too. The rod shop was in Flippin Arkansas - before you get to Mtn Home.
In the 1980's thru to late 1999 they were LLBeans premiere finished fly rod supplier.
The 20+ years of awards on the wall were something I used to stare at.

The rod oven was something else to stand next to. The sound, the smells - everything was neat in those real early learnin' days and still is.

I believe they are most known for their version of the short Brunsell's Little Streamer rod... it is graphite.

Doing business with them was fantastic - what a positive group.
The scraps from that rodshop helped me a long way.
Great folks.

Late in posting this, but thanks to all who provided the information on Dorber.com. I didn't make it clear that what I was actually looking for was the author of the article that was on the website.

I now have the information I was looking for - the article, How, When, And Where To Fly Fish Lakes was written by Bob Brunsell (3 May 1917 - 12 March 2001).

Thanks again!
