Interviews with rodmakers

#1

Post by 3creeks »

I started getting into flyfishing podcasts a little deeper recently and tonight I stumbled upon a new one called the So Fly Fishing Podcast. To my surprise there was a pretty long and detailed interview with James Bond from Toronto which I enjoyed very much. It got me thinking about how many more there could be so I wanted to put it out there. April Vokey had Bob Clay on and I think Bill Oyster on her Anchored podcast. Jimmy Watts from Shuksan Rods was on Fly Fishing 97 about 6 months ago. These were all great interviews. Are there any others that I'm not aware of?

There are some interviews with rodmakers at MSU’s Angling Oral History project: https://www.lib.montana.edu/trout/oral- ... index.html

Glenn Brackett and Tom Morgan for sure. There may be others.

Though it’s not a podcast but an e-magazine,Todd Talsma of PowerFibers.com has interviewed several rod makers in the last few issues.

Somewhat dated but still good to listen to. Bernard Ramanauskas: https://podbay.fm/podcast/125855444/e/1174276800

Also, not an interview with a rodmaker, but this podcast is also really enjoyable to listen to. Banjo: https://podbay.fm/podcast/125855444/e/1147950000

Indeed, Harry. Recently I purchased a download of ALL of the back issues of Power Fibers from Todd. I'd always assumed that you had to get them on DVD, which is problematic since many computers don't come equipped with disc drives these days. I finally reached out to him in an email and an hour or so later I was downloading. And you are among those interviews!

Maybe we could add to this list.
" There's no such thing as a fly fisherman wholly satisfied with his casting performance. " ~ Jim Green (1971)
" Just once I wish a trout would wink at me. " ~ Brian Shaffer
