Any clues to what the purpose of this box is. Cannot find any pictures online of anything similar. I know Cortland produces flylines maybe an early way to add lines to flyreels. Thanks on any info. Dank

could it have been involved with Cortlands metered trolling lines? they made more lines than just fly lines and the label talks about 10 yards and different colors which puts it squarely into the trolling line category.

Those colors correspond to the colors on their leadcore lines.I have an unused spool I purchased from the Cortland outlet store before it closed. Leadcore typically comes in 10 color, 100 yard spools, although the color sequence on my newer spool differs from that of the label in the box.

Are they sort of heavy (the spools with line)?

Think majority of weight comes from the gears inside

I was trying to figure out if the line itself has a lead wire core, or if it is just all dacron or something like that. The whole thing is pretty interesting.
