Carolina Cane Gathering: April 11-13, 2019
#1The Carolina Cane Gathering of 2019 will be held April 11-13, 2019. We will be back at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education (fish hatchery) where we have been for the last several years.
For 2019 we are going to be encouraging everyone to bring their “favorite” rod for the rodmakers challenge. Much like the “Challenge Rods” at other gatherings we will set aside some time for casting and comparison. In order to participate we are asking that you bring the rod with you and submit the taper ahead of time (we will provide a form for you to submit with your registration). Everyone attending the gathering will receive a booklet with all of the compiled tapers. Our goal is to help you find that next rod that you’d like to build.
Registration information will be coming in the new year but we wanted to go ahead and let everyone know the dates and have enough time to work on their “favorite” rod.

#2This is a nice idea for a rodmakers meet "challenge." :-) It would be great to hear each rodmaker explain in a sentence or 2 WHY this is their favorite rod.

#3On the link provided you can find the .pdf file of the registration to print, complete, and mail in.

There are also two different links on the registration page for taper submissions. The first is a google form that can be completed completely online, the second is a printable form. You only need to complete one or the other, I'm hoping that by giving multiple ways to submit the taper we'll get a good response.

#4The time is drawing near for the early registration. We have put together a good gathering for this year. We have some exciting programs that will be interesting and entertaining. Topics will include splicing jigs, ferrule making, using a mini lathe and a good discussion on the old production shops. There will also be the challenge rod which will be quite interesting I think. Brevard, or as its otherwise known as, The Land of Waterfalls, is a beautiful part of the the Southern Appalachian Mountains and is always an awesome place to visit. The fishin ain’t bad either. I’ve made arrangements with the weatherman for a beautiful spring weekend. Sure hope to see you folks there.

#5I just got the word that we will be having Mr. Chris Bogart bestowing his knowledge of George Varney for us. So we have a full schedule of wide ranging topics, good food, good people and good fishin. Ya just can’t ask for any more than that.

#6I do not attend gatherings , but the Carolina Cane sounds like it would be one in the Southeast that is loaded with programs. The location is right on the Davidson river one of TU's top 100 trout streams. dave m

#11Neither Gary nor myself got many pictures of the casting because, well, we were busy casting rods.
