I recently bought a Montague Sunbeam. Sections are about 34 5/8". The rod came with an orange colored, agate strip guide tied to the rods with some thread. The actual strip guide on the butt section is black metal. Did these rods originally come with an agate strip guide? Info that I got said that this is a pretty low end rod. Guide wraps are done in cream and blue thread and reel seat is blue.

kilgore,

Montague Sunbeams were typically equipped with an agatine (not a real agate) or a snake stripping guide. They were offered for almost 30 years and there were many variations in the hardware and the thread colors over that time before they settled on the blue plastic reel seat and the blue and cream/white silk thread.

Montyman,

Thanks for the info. I'm going to restore the rod over time.
