#2Hang tight. Hopefully Mike and others will come along to provide some feedback. In the mean time, please post a photo showing the entire rod with sections next to each other and close up of the ferrules (metal parts where the rod joins together).

#3I can do that. Just give me a few minutes to finish up what I'm working on and I'll go grab it and take a few pics. I hate handling it due to the condition of the bag.

Re: Orvis Lancewood #175
#6I provided the OP with the following:
This rod was built in 1885 at the Manchester Vermont rod manufacturing shop of C.F. Orvis, on Union Ave. It was probably built by the main rod maker there, Hiram Eggleston. The rod features the patented reel seat that was designed by Hiram Eggleston.
This rod is a "No. 12" Henshall bass rod being originally 8' 3" in length with a black linen cord wound butt/handle. The rod has the reel seat above the grip, trumpet guides and was the recommended length by Dr. Henshall author of "The Black Bass"
I don't have any information on who first purchased the rod, but the rod was returned to be repaired in April 1888 and so we do know who had it repaired and that was H.K Jones. The rod did have two tips to begin with as the repair included a new tip and a repair on the second tip. Also there is no record of the early CF Orvis shop 1870-1915 building one tip rods.
The current state of the rod is the remaining tip has been lost, it's male ferrule is in the mid section, and it appears the grip has dried out and is falling off, maybe a wrap or two is missing etc. The bag has disintegrated and maybe not recoverable. The rod could be recovered and saved as a display piece for more than you could recover in a sale.

#10That is one cool site Royce... must remember to come back to it and see more.

#11I just saw this thread. Those 125+ year old rods are special. But the personal history Royce is able to add makes them national treasures.
