#2Jim, I'd say the black under glass is a really nice reflective touch.

#3For the rod it provides a interesting perspective. I kinda like it and never would have thought to try it.

#6First, those look like some amazing rods, reels, and lures. Would love to see more of your collection.
Maybe your first time with a reflective surface but definitely not your first time setting up a shot. Did you try a flash of any sort or just steady light?

Re: My first time with a reflective surface
#7Finally got around to trying a mirror. I chose the Pettengill reel for this shot based on the aesthetics of the spool arbor, something you otherwise wouldn't really see with a standard "head-on" photo. I'm still leaning towards the black background looking best, but I need to try other reel/rod combos before I decide. I also wanted to go with nickel silver on hard rubber, thinking the "silver" mirror would show this best. Please tell me what you think, I would appreciate the feedback.
I used steady light for all these photos.Maybe your first time with a reflective surface but definitely not your first time setting up a shot. Did you try a flash of any sort or just steady light?

#10Great pictures Brian.
...as for us we pin our faith and fealty to the silk-wound PENTAGONAL rod cunningly yet simply devised of its FIVE subtle, individual triangular strips of cane throughout...

#11The Fowler above is a real looker - but not so durable from what I read... surprised its own reflection didn't scare it into pieces.
