#2That is cool. I tried to get some pictures of the eclipse, but I couldn't get any to turn out good.

#3Nice shots. Thanks. We had cloud coverage through most of it.

#4Thanks for the comments.....
It would have had a bummer to have clouds......we are cloudy with rain this evening.....
I was shooting a Sony a77ii with a 70400 G2 @ 400 with a 2x tele @ 5.6 with between a 1/2 second to 3 second shutter.
I like moon shots but typically shoot during day light.....this was my first try at night and was fun. I was surprised how much more color came through with the slow shutter.
Here are a couple daytime shots from earlier this year.

#5Very nice shots Mark. I opted to have a pipe whilst watching the eclipse, did not feel like getting all my camera gear set up since I'd been playing mainly with the Leica M8 with a 90 mm Leica lens mounted on it the weight difference is very noticeable.

#7An old photographer friend and I were exchanging our blood moon and other astrophotography photos back and forth, exchanging technical data about gear used, exposure and other data and copying said photographer friend's kid brother (who is a pipsqueak in his mid-60s, and also a photographer).
After several back and forths the kid brother wrote to us . . .
"Sorry to out do you fellas, but I got this great shot with my iPhone:"

I fish . . . not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important but because I suspect that so many other concerns of men are equally unimportant--and not nearly so much fun.

#8Those are some remarkable pictures. I haven't tried many moon shots. It was cloudy here so I missed it.

Yes, I believe it's a waxing gibbous orange . . .
friend's kid brother has a great sense of humor.

#11Are you really sure about that sense of humor? There is a difference between a sense of humor and just being a smart ass - trust me, I should know...durangofly wrote:Mike

#12John,
As you know about me, and it's also true of my friend, we both sometimes get a little carried away with the technical elements of photography. 45 years ago, after college and before we moved on with our lives, my friend and I both worked at the same camera store in Chicago--Altman's.
When we start to go overboard in that direction the "kid brother" (a great guy, by the way) has a knack for bringing us back down to earth.
When I got the email with this "blood moon" photo I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
