I have a PHY Company Midge, serial # 4288. I am interested in knowing when this rod was made.
The writing on the shaft is Bob Summers'. The rod is in very good original condition, showing only some honest use.
I am the second owner. The original owner purchased the rod at the PHY Company Shop in Michigan, but he didn't recall the year. He put the rod in a closet and never bought a reel for it. I bought it from him in 1981 for $95. That's all he would take for it, though I told him it was worth more.
I have used it sparingly since 1981, and it is still in good shape. It has had no repairs or refinishing, ferrule fit is excellent, and it has been admired by a lot of fly anglers.
Thank you for whatever you can share.

#7Thanks, Gerard, for posting the pictures.
A couple of days after Gerard was out to the house I took the Midge to a neighborhood stream and was reminded that it casts and fishes as well as it looks, and it does look pretty good for a 50+ year old rod.
