Printers blocks were used to print the illustrations in Paul H. Young's catalogs and books. Mounted on wood with nails and (probably) glue, this Redheads fly illustration appears to be a zinc plate.
The same printers block is shown with two Redheads flies and a PHY catalog from the 1930s.
Trude flies from the PHY Co. are shown with their description in the 1934 PHY catalog, plus a copper plate printers block of the PHY logo that appeared at the top of each catalog page.
A closeup view of the PHY logo copper plate printers block.
A zinc plate printers block of the Clancy Bug illustration from an early catalog. The Clancy Bug was sometimes called a variation of Young's Salmon River Caddis,
The image of progress from a raw bamboo culm to a fisnished rod was used on the covers of several PHY catalogs over many years. This is a copperplate halftone printers block.

#3A nice gentleman who has seen my posts about PHY contacted me and offered them for sale. He has also been great about directing my attention to 1930s sporting magazine advertisements by PHY - earlier than the 1940s and 1950s ads that I knew about.
