PHY 6' 3" midge 2/1 marked 1.75 ounces with a wood real seat

Have any of you PHY afficionados ever heard of a PHY Midge with a wood real seat? Indeed, a picture of the one I am looking at has no serial number, but is otherwise penned on the base shaft with the proper language to identify it. The end of the cork grip, however, is a tapered golden brown that reminds me of the way that Bill Phillipson finished his rods. Is it just likely that the original owner broke one of the tips and the rod was refinished changing the grip to cork with a wood reel seat?
