Stolen RD Taylor rod
Re: Stolen RD Taylor rod
#23The ebay listing states that it is in Indiana? Something "fishy" going on here. No pun intended. Please keep us posted and best of luck getting this resolved with a positive outcome.

#24X's 3. We'll keep our eyes pealed.

#25Hopefully the low-life who stole your rod will get what he has coming to him (or her).

#28What a horrible idea that your rod is being offered on eBay!
Won’t eBay stop this?

#29Actually if you look at the seller's items for sale it might be a pawn shop with an Ebay account.
I think you will get your rod back. I don't know how it works in the US, but here in Canada the regs are pretty strict about selling stolen property.

thank u. no we dont have a reel. not sure when it was made. our price is high because bob taylor went out of business and you cant buy them anymore & we are the only ones who have it for sale anywhere. you are welcome to make an offer and we will consider it.

I sent a few "questions" to the seller. This is the reply.

#31Nice of him to admit having it. That will make the postal inspectors' job all the easier.
BTW - it's the postal inspectors you should get involved on this. They often don't have enough to do, so they are inclined to respond more quickly.

#33It will be interesting to see how this is resolved. I hope the property is recovered.
Re: Stolen RD Taylor rod
#34Not wanting to throw a "monkey wrench" into the process/investigation, but actually seeing the exact serial number in the listing prompted me to get a confirmation and for all intents and purposes, it seems like the rod listed is the one pilfered.
Re: Stolen RD Taylor rod
#35The thing is to not bombard the seller with tons of questions from folks thinking they are being helpful. Doing so raises a red flag to the seller. Which could make the rod quickly vanish. As long as the Authorities know it is on EBay, they will work through EBay which has a good history of assisting law enforcement in these types of matters.

#36This. Don't do anything to blow it for the investigation and the return of the rod to the rightful owner....best to keep a low profile and watch it play out from behind the scenes.Cane Head wrote: ↑07/22/21 11:47The thing is to not bombard the seller with tons of questions from folks thinking they are being helpful. I have to give out kudos to Vaughanwilson3022...to spot the rod and recall a year-old thread is quite remarkable.
Hoping for a happy outcome.

#37This is very encouraging to see. After a year the rod has surfaced. So far so good.GerardH wrote: ↑07/22/21 12:16This. #38It just makes me wonder how many others are using eBay to fence stolen items.

Re: Stolen RD Taylor rod
#40Here are my thoughts after half of a Manhattan:
1. Why hasn't this thread been locked after VW brought it to our attention? Discussing ANY eBay auction is not allowed.
2. Can we - moderators - create a new subforum where stolen/"missing" items can be posted so that we can aid forum members in: a) recovering legally owned property, and 2) allowing forum members to cross reference against this database prior to purchasing a potentially hot item?
Now back to the other half before it gets warm
Cheers,
Joe
