Sad news!!

Dad Passed away last night peacefully after a very long and full life. Please honor the man that impacted so many here in ways they do not know. His support allowed the traveling museum to be seen by so many and most enjoyed it.
R.I.P. Jack Hiram Hatton, loving father, and husband. An original member of the 10th mountain division and he served with honor and distinction in the Italy campaign, a Bronze Star with clusters, 1924-2020, you will be deeply missed by your son and those that you gave your time and knowledge and love too over your incredibly full and long life. You will always be with me every time I hit the woods or the waters. I Love you, Dad rest in peace.

Your loving son

Jeff, sorry to hear of Jacks passing, we used to joke about getting old when I'd call. I'll keep him in my thoughts.

Thanks for all of the kind thoughts !!! means the world to me. Matt call me Thanks.

If he was not working on his truck or boat he was fishing. At 96 he had just finished a complete rebuild of his 50 horse Evinrude and in this picture, he was deep into his old 72 ford.

Jeff, I know what a special bond you shared with your dad and I’m truly sorry to hear of his passing. You helped make his life fuller, happier and even more precious by being such a big part of it. Your pride of your dad was no doubt shared in his pride of you as his son. I know you will miss him tremendously but as you said his memories will always be with you and part of you and I hope you will find comfort in them.

Good luck to you during this difficult time Jeff and thank you for sharing this with all of us.

Adrien

What a privilege to have that relationship with your dad. Deepest condolences.
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)

After talking with Jeff this morning I started to remember some of the stories Jack told during my visits to the Cave. It’s funny as there was never any embellishments, just cold, hard facts and the telling never changed. Jack was not a big man in stature but he was huge in integrity, honor and commitment to his family. He was truly of the greatest generation! A tear comes to my eyes when I think of his passing but I can smile remembering sitting under the cherry tree as Jack worked on his boat telling stories. My hat off to a truly wonderful man.

Jeff,

I only know you through this forum, a few email exchanges, and your book, but I know how close you were to your Dad. My sincere condolences to you.

Mike
