Leigh H. Perkins Sr.

LHP passed away peacefully down in Florida. Folks seemed to love him or not so much. Most will never know the quiet yet important kindnesses he bestowed on so many...very much including me.

Thanks, Gary.

I, for one, prefer to remember Mr. Perkins for his many contributions to the outdoor sports he loved.

R.I.P. Mr Perkins. Seeing those bamboo rods in Orvis catalogs as a kid was a goal to strive for one day

Nice Hatch magazine article about him from 2019

I can’t find a obituary for confirmation. Anyone know the details?

Leigh Perkins was a life-long sportsman who lived an interesting life by anybody's standards. His book A Sportsman's Life is worth reading.

He just passed on 5/7, so might be a bit early for an obit. I do know the details, but really not needed here.

Ironically, I just finished "A Sportsman's Life" last week. Leigh was a highly energetic person. As a young man, he worked on Minnesota's "iron range". Who would have guessed? And he certainly advanced Orvis to the entity it is today.

RIP Mr. Perkins

Orvis is the oldest mail order company still in existence. Charles F. Orvis had a great business mind.

RIP. During his reign, he turned the Orvis catalog into something worth reading. Nowadays, they quickly get tossed into the trash.

It was my pleasure to serve on the National TU Board in the 70s with Leigh. He was a quite man in the meetings but a strong advocate for cold water fisheries wherever they were located.

His contributions to raising awareness of the need to protect our fisheries are enormous, given the support and donations that the Orvis Company has continuously made for decades.

93, I believe. In a Sportsman's Life, he says he bought the Orvis Company in 1965, when he was 37 years old.

RIP. What a legacy. Really enjoyed Sportman's Life.

I always liked their gear. My Orvis vest is 25 yo and going strong. I have to get me a Battenkill rod one of these days.
