How to protect a paper label on a tube
#1I just bought a Heddon Black Beauty with issues but the tube is in pretty good shape and has nice paper label that I would like to cover. How can this be done without damaging it? I was think of Press and seal. any other thoughts?

#2Take a fairly heavy plastic bag, cut a strip a couple of inches wider than the label. Wrap around the label and tape into place with clear tape around the edges of the plastic bag. No tape should touch the actual label.

#4I put shrink wrap over the entire tube, protects the label and tube, no adhesives. Just need a heat gun to put it on. And there’s a forum member that sells the right size shrink wrap.

#5Good thought too. Any ideas on the best way to clean the tube?

#6Soap and water. I use a magic eraser as well but I don’t try to get it perfectly shiny, just cleaned up. Then if the tube doesn’t have a label, I’ll have one made with all the data that I want (model, length, weight, etc). If I have a catalog listing, I’ll have a label made that shows the original listing. Then I put the labels on the tube and cover it all with shrink wrap.
I experimented for a bit with different ways to label and protect tubes, the method above is what I settled on and in my opinion looks the best. I’ll post some pictures later

#7Thanks for the info - I don't want shiny either just cleaned. Photos would be great.

#8I've cleaned a lot of metal (unpainted and painted) rod tubes over the years.
I use a Brillo pad and warm running water. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well this method works.

#10I purchased this rod from "Streamer" in 2010. It arrived with Saran Wrap protecting the label. Ten years later, that same piece still does.

#11Here are some of tubes after cleaning, labels, and shrink wrap. I also put a thin layer of foam on the inside of the caps.

#13Yes, soap and water with magic eraser. Brillo pad would probably work well also.
