Questions about Sharpes numbering system

#1

Post by Dave Westburg »

Purchased a Sharpes Scottie Eighty Eight. It has this numbering on the reel seat:

1.12
75

I've looked at the Sharpes Rod numbering page on the internet and still can't decipher what the numbering system means. Anyone care to venture an opinion.

If you email them they will answer you. They may have some insight, though the page has most of the info. I have a 7' 5 weight Featherlite that also has numbering a bit different from the system shown on their page.

From my chart, it looks like you have the 75th rod to be turned out in December 1971.

viewtopic.php?f=67&t=68095&hilit=+Sharpes

It decodes like this:

1 = year number - this relates to the numbering scheme introduced in 1971, replacing the previous scheme introduced in 1963
12 = Month - December
75 Serial number of rods produced in that month.

Hope this helps a bit!!

Best to all

Whiteadder, I figured you'd know if anyone does. Am enjoying the Sharpes. Put it through its paces on a blustery rainy day casting wet flies on an intermediate line on a western Washington lake. It handled the wind and the 11-15 inch rainbows with ease.
