I’m considering the purchase of this rod ~ $950, or Penn’s Creek 2/2 7’ 4wt ... at ~$1250. Both in superb condition...
Any immediate thoughts as to relative value-performance?

The 7-foot, 3 1/2-oz, 11/64-ferrule Battenkill model has a fast-action taper. It was designed by Wes Jordan for HDH or HDG silk lines—about equivalent to synthetic DT6 or WF6 lines made to the AFTMA line standard, which Orvis adopted for 1963. Currently, most fly fishers would likely use it with a 5-weight line.

The same taper was used for the lower grade “99” (1955-1962) and the 2 5/8-oz lightweight Deluxe (1956-1966) models.

I expect a nice example would sell in the $600 plus/minus $50 range.
