Jay,
I won't find out for awhile since I have 4 1/2' of snow on the ground. Putting it together I know it will fit my casting style. This is Mike's favorite taper but he fishes it with a 5wt.

I've cast an 8' 3pc heavily-flamed, red-wrapped rod that Mike uses, I'm pretty sure that its been lined with a 4wt... might be a different rod? It's a really easy rod to cast, medium-action, flexes deeper than the Spittler rods that I have. I like it a lot! I don't really think of Spittler rods as having a typical action.

That's a great rod Dennis and is even more beautiful in person. I thought it was definitely a 4wt when I casted Mike's personal rod in that taper.

Nice Carpenter Quads!!!
Are these the first quads you've owned Vaughan? What do you think of quads as compared to hex?

Dennis,

7’3” rod is a hex with 2 different tips - both 4 wt. This is my first hollow quad and is slice joint rod as well - really nice casting rod as I like it with a wf4 but will cast a wf5 as well.

I just received two rods from Munsey Wheby ,a Payne 100 copy and a 7'10" 5/6. If you have never seen his work you owe it to yourself to make that happen. Both rods a beautiful and cast like dreams. The 7'10" is a real rocket while the Payne is the kind of rod that I will look forward to fishing every day. Thank you Munsey !

That is a really nice find, the 8 ft is possibly the best of the 1960 C C de France rods. I have a 1956, 9 ft, C C de France (3 piece, 2 tips), not in as good condition as yours, and I think it has the same handwriting on the cane.

I commissioned a Sweetgrass version of my 7'3" penta 4wt from them. I have a single tip version and gush about it here all the time, and the thought of not having it due to damage drove me to order another tip. Tip alone would have cost as much of the rod, so I but the bullet and got the 2 tip version, even had it inscribed to me (something I dont do). I just paid for it with what I saved to pay my taxes with (I have 2 1099s) and it should be on its way as of today. The timing is amazing, provided it gets here before any other shut downs occur. Cant wait to smell it, haha.

This is truly my favorite small/med river rod, the one I've been searching for all this time.
