I recently received my 8'6" 3/2 5wt Takemoto rod. It is his 8-strip "octo-quad" construction.

I have spent a few days with it so far, and I am very impressed. Light in the hand and pleasantly fast action. It fits my casting style quite well, and I love the aesthetics. Take used a gorgeous piece of curly ash for the spacer and it complements the blonde cane nicely. I'm looking forward to spending more time with it this summer.

Can't take my eyes off that gorgeous Takemoto, and the brownie is also a beauty.

I see the octo-quad build, interesting "elliptical" construction. Based on the cross-section showed on the rod tube, is the rod also hollowed? What material are the male ferrules made of?

Thanks much for sharing,
Kenneth

Very nice rod. Very interesting construction all around. Rod geometry, ferrules and guides are all intriguing.

FreestoneVintage, it is great to be able to see your beautiful Takemoto rod in such detail. Out of interest, were you influenced by Bando's Mostly Bamboo in purchasing the rod?

Thanks all! Kenneth, a good shot of the cross section can be found on Wannabe's post on page 168 of this thread. I beleive Take San uses a CNC machine to mill all his strips, which is how he attains the "T-bracing" in the octagonal build. The ferrules are fiberglass.

PT48, I actually ordered the rod a few months before I had heard about the book. It was nice to get the book though and read about his process. There is some fascinating stuff coming out of Japan at the moment.

Very cool, love that grip. Looks super tasteful.

I cast a Wojnicki with glass ferrules and didn't love it because it felt too light. But there are so many variables to consider there.

I like the single-leg guides and, if I have correctly interpreted the images, the use of a single-leg guide at the tip instead of a conventional glued on tip guide is interesting.

Picked up a Folsom 1525 8 1/2ft. 2f that needed some work .
Tim Zietak did an outstanding job rewrapping and varnishing it.
It will be heading west with me later this summer.

Nice looking rod Dennis! I am starting to appreciate the little details on those Winston rods. It came from the same source, I think, as the 8', 2/1, #5 Winston which I bought earlier in the year. I have been very pleased with all the tackle I have bought from Freestone Vintage.

A 7’9” 4/5 weight quad with taped splices by Cris Carpenter. The rod is nicely crafted and Cris was a delight to work with.
