Cool rod. You've got to love those intermediates, ever so classic and classy. Fish it in good health.

I was wondering if anyone would ge able to give me some idea as to the date of this rod? Maybe pre-WW2?

Old Faithful Rod Co. True Action rods were made by Wright McGill around 1951-1952 as a way to sell lower grade cane rods. I have not seen one with intermediates - appears to have a replacement reelseat.

For me, recently acquired a Dennis Stone Granger 9043 taper. Casts great with a 5 wt, but Dennis designed it for light spey and I'm still trying to master the new technique. Another recent rod is a Pennington made Garrison 212 taper 8'. Surprised me on how nicely it casts on my local stream. Like others, I have also gotten a good deal on 3 other rods for winter projects - all SB with one being a doublebuilt.

I will take a chance of being ostracized, as mine is not a bamboo rod. It is, however, a very sweet Anderson & Sons of Edinburg 9' greenheart rod. It casts a 3wt silk line very well. It has a tiger walnut handle, brass fittings, and is probably the prettiest fly rod I have ever seen in person.

Actually the reel seat appears white here, but the anodization has faded from a brownish red to this white. The underside is still the original color. Maybe original? I have never seen one with intermediates either but they sure look original to the rod. Varnish is good and "True Action" stamp is sharp. It's a mystery for sure, but it's a sweet casting rod either way.

It sounds like seat is original. A good fishing tool that casts well.

I just received this Heddon #20 8’ 1 1/2 ferrule. It’s in fantastic condition, and takes both 4 and 5 lines equally well. I probably prefer it with the 5 though. Very nice rod, and I’m glad to add it to my collection. I’ll fish the heck out of it for sure.

Didn't watch your video, but if you don't like things, why have them custom made for you? Hmmm..I don't like white vehicles with chrome weels, but I think I'll order one :-)

If you don't read carefully, don't post responses. The OP and I had a conversation about this rod. He doesn't like blued metal and had the maker make this Payne clone with bright hardware as he liked it

I got this from a member a few weeks ago and decided to give it a "face lift" if you will. Tonka Queen now has 9 snakes and a stripper and a new reel seat. I wrapped the ferrules in black to match the hardware and take the shiny chrome out of the mix. It casts nicely. I used Garrison guide spacing.
Simple Tru Oil finish. I'm not a pro, just an enthusiast of bamboo rods.

I've been really curious about one piece rods. I was able to acquire one built from an unknown maker in a 5wt thats pretty interesting, but it's short and pairing it up with the right size water and flies is a little funny. It would probably be amazing in the upper peninsula. That said, ive been looking out for something a bit more in scale.

Sweetgrass has had 2 6'3" penta 3wts on their site for a bit, and curiosity finally got the best of me. It arrived yesterday in a clever PVC piping tube, an inner cork ring catching the handle before the grip swells so that tip down the rod never touched the bottom. The cap is about 8-10 inches long, sleeving the handle and reel seat. Reel seat is a slide band on a beautiful brown burl I can't identify.

Anyhow, took it out with a DT3. The reel I was using, a CFO 2, was a touch heavy but it didn't matter. It casts a fairly tight loop and out to about 30 feet it's very, very nice. You could also hit 50 feet with this rod if needed. I tried opening my loop up a bit just to see, but it liked the tighter stroke better. The shorter length, and perhaps the penta, allows it to recover pretty fast. It's very, very smooth. I probably spent about 20 minutes with it. I doubt I'll try another line on it since it was so nice as is.

We have a small local with wild browns that sip midges basically year 'round. Ive been meaning to buckle down on my smaller game and this will be the rod for me. I also want to go to some PA streams with it, like the Monocacy.

Really excited about this rod and its potential.
