Don't have them cataloged but I think I'm north of 50 . Said I was through and had all I really needed but that was 3 rods ago and I still have a few I will be interested in down the road . Last ones were Leonards , a 49 DF pre fire in near new condition , a 41 Catskill 8 ft 3 1/8 oz restored by Steve Blake and a 9 ft 46 Catskill pre fire 3 1/2 oz that needs two eraps redone .

Never sold a rod and really can't see me doing it . As far as buying from a modern or current maker is concerned I really like Gary Lacey's new Grangers and may buy one if I run across one when I have the cash . I bought one of Jim Royston's Perfection taper rods that I really like and highly recommend . Bob Gorman makes a 6 ft 1 piece 3 wt that I love with a 2 dt and I would buy another one if anything ever happens to mine . Hal Bacon is gone but I will buy one of his Kosmic rods at some point . Probably could name a few more but these are the first that come to mind .

The two I fish the most : pre 1925 Catskill 42 8 1/2 ft 3 5/8 oz 4 dt
Post Fire Leonard 39 7 1/2 ft 3 5/8 oz 5 dt

Wore out old rod junkie , WILL WORK FOR RODS .

I think I posted to this thread years ago so here's an update of my very modest collection:

Kusse Magnum O'pus - 7 1/2' 4 wt made in 1990 - beautiful rod with a cut-away reel seat and brass rod tube
Mike Clark Geirach-Best Special - 8 1/2' 5 wt
Thramer swelled butt - 7 1/2' 4 wt - I built this from one of A.J's blanks
Granger 9' 5 wt 2x4 - yeah, casts like a 2x4. It was my first purchase and I hardly fish it anymore.

Chestatee! Envious of the Young collection you have.I would love to have that assortment and that many...I only have 3, but they are awesome.
Wish they were a little less pricey, but with new plastic at 1K I try to rationalize ;).

8' 4 3/8 Battenkill

South Bend
8 1/2' 359
Rebuilt 7 1/2???
Heddon
125 Expert # 2 1/2 Ferrule
# 10 8' Blue Waters

Mystery Rod on its way may be a second in the rough we will see
Edwards
MR Carmel 8'
8' FB 7
Kiri
7 1/2' Perfectionist
Well I have since added
Bristol F-18 8 1/2' 5/6 at
Edwards Bristol F-7 8 1/2' 4/5wt
Orvis 6 1/2' 5 wt
L.L Bean 7 1/2' 5 wt
So time for another update
Since the last listing I have added:
9' 4 wt Chubb
10' 5wt ring guide ratian grip Chubb
Bob Taylor 8' 5wt flame tone
Maxwell Leonard Hunt 50DF
8'3" Abrams Presentation
Arriving shortly a 7'5" Abrams
Orvis Nymph
Orvis 4 1/8
Orvis Light Salmon
9' Edwards Signature
8.5' Edwards Trade rod ( name escapes me right now)

Favorite Rod is a toss up between the Abrams Presentation or the Maxwell Leonard. However, the 10' Chubb is a lot of fun. I love the Amazing bend when a good fish is on. That bend just takes a fishes energy and transfers it right down the rod. Not a very accurate caster, but a great wet fly rod, with the length to reach across current seams.
I want to be buried with my favorite rod.
I hear the Styx River has Fish.

I am really happy to see these collections: I can tell my wife I am compulsive, but not disordered... My humble collection of bamboo fly rods consists of the following:

Isaak Walton 9'-0" (U.S. Twine?)
Unnamed 9'-0" 3-piece Calcutta cane rod (my Great-grandfather's)
Orvis 7'-0" 3 3/8 oz. 2/2 Battenkill
Orvis 7'-0" 2/2 Penns Creek
Orvis 7'-6" 3 7/8 oz. 2/1 Madison
Orvis 8'-0" 4 1/8 oz. 2/2 Battenkill
Orvis 8'-6" 5 oz. 2/1 Madison
Oyster 7'-0" 4 wt. 2-piece Class rod
Oyster 7-6" 5 wt. 2-piece Class rod
Oyster 8'-0" 6 wt. 2-piece Class rod
Oyster 8'-0" 9 wt. 2/2 Class rod
Summers 7'-3" 735 4/5 wt 2/2
Summers 8'-0" 856 5/6 wt 2/2
Wright-McGill 9050 9'-0" 6 3/2 6 wt.

I live in Vermont, so Orvis makes sense. I used to live in Illinois and fish the Au Sable in Grayling, Michigan, hence the Summers rods. As for the rest, I will be making my fourth Oyster class rod next April (with my wife) and the big question is "What do I need?" Nothing, of course, but either a 7'-6" 4 wt. or 6'-6" 4 wt. is likely. My wife will probably make an 8'-0" 5 or 6 wt. for her first (and last) bamboo rod. Doesn't really matter, since Bill Oyster's tapers and instruction are the best.

Wow...some of the collections are simply mind blowing. My list is short but sweet (pun intended).

Sweetgrass Series 7' 6" 4wt 3|2 Brackett '14
T & T Midge 7' 6" 4wt 2|2 Dorsey and Maxwell script c.'73
Payne 101 7' 6" 5wt 2|2 Jim Payne early '60s
Granger Registered 8' 0" 5wt 3|2 W&M '48

I decided to take the original and Excellent+ route. I have only one more rod on my wish list. Trying to pry it from another collector. Maybe one day.

Did you sell your 8-1/2' "light trout" Ace? Curious, because I have the same rod in the Special version, a great casting rod.

Yes, the light 8'6" Ace is now enjoyed by another owner, while just a few hours ago I received a 9'2" Young rod that's completely new to me, from which I will surely learn a lot.

I actually have the Ace back and am very happy. I need therapy....
The list has changed a bit and I am after a few others.

PHY Para 15 Keller Deluxe '55
PHY Para 9' Deluxe 4.24oz '51. Sublime with large flies and nymphs.
PHY 9' Nymph Special for Paul A. Young 1950
PHY Para 16 Deluxe '51. This and the Para 14 are the most parabolic PHYs I have have cast.
PHY Texas General 36xx. Not a para, a canon.
PHY Para 14 '49. Takes a minute to get the hang of, wants to cast a lot of line.
PHY Driggs 42xx. A faster rod than my earlier Driggs. Love it for dries.
PHY Perfectionist Charlie Fox. Does everything well.
PHY Bob Doerr '51. Very parabolic, loads of fun to cast at distance. Sends a full 7wt into the backing.
PHY 7 1/2 Deluxe Dry '49. A superb casting rod. Not para or progressive.
PHY Para 17 '55. A power house. Begs for more line.
PHY Martha Marie 38xx
PHY 8 1/2' 2/2 Ace 4/5wt
PHY 9 1/2'. 3/2, fighting butt. 3 unique tips for 7, 8 and 9wt. Built for Kirk. Special Deluxe grade with original 5 part bad and tube.
Cris Carpenter Quad 8'3"
Cris Carpenter 8' spliced quad. The most sensitive rod I have ever cast.
Granger Colorado Special 9 1/2 in original labelled bag/form. My favorite nymph rod.
Granger Special 9 1/2 early 30's with slide band seat
Payne Para 7'9" 50's. Not what I call parabolic, but an amazing casting rod.
Lancaster Midge Pack rod, Seaholm bag mid 80's
Lancaster Para 15 Pack rod, Seaholm bag mid 80's 6wt
Lancaster Para 15 Pack rod 5wt
Cris Carpenter '10 year' quad on the way. I've recently cast the prototype. Will deliver a 9' leader in close or nearly an entire DT4 (maybe the whole line, I ran out of space). Can't wait.
Kentuck Jim/Jim Ifert Payne Para 7'9" Heavy. A super smooth casting rod that is beautiful as well. I like a 6wt.

Robert - we want pics of that new toy!

Here in the heart of Texas, buying, trying and selling various makers and tapers is the most cost-effective way for me to discover my preferences. I've moved more rods than I've kept (patting myself on the back). However, I've been struggling for 2 years to make decisions on thinning this down. Best hurry. My daughter has aspirations to attend Yale Law School.

Maruoff's original ask for the post:
1. your current stock of bamboo rods,
2. two rods you use most
3. one rod that you really regretted to sell
4. three rodmakers you will buy rods from in the future

I am actually down to just one rod on order (not counting my Kusse order ;) or my Spittler order :D

The rods most fished are the Hidys, the longer Brandins, the Leonard Goldberg rod, the Edwards Deluxe, and the Carpenter 2/2 Browntone. I am thinking I need to take the plastic off the grip and fish the Maxwell 7'6" 2/2. That rod is pretty sweet, and has a very diminutive 4.5" cigar grip with a swell butt. Flamed and wrapped like a Leonard Hunt model (the red wrapped version).

I did have to sell off or trade about 6 rods over the last year or so, to help pay for some of the newest rods in my collection.

I would love to see other members update their lists, as I always enjoy reading the collections, small, medium or large, assembled by our fellow forum members.

Cheers, Ric

Thanks. Now I don't feel so guilty about my comparatively minor collection !

Dave, is the 71/2 ft Gillum taper one you made up in the last couple of years? What's your take on it?

Ric - That rod collection is really large and top shelf. I hope you live a long time and enjoy every one.
