Archer, very nice collection of W&M Grangers! I personally think the W&M Granger maker is a fantastic place to start a collection! Which is your favorite? I’m partial to the deluxe 8040.

What rod is your next addition? 7’ Granger?

Thanks! My favorite is the 8040 Victory, but only because I haven’t had a chance to try the DeLuxe. If it casts the same, it’ll definitely be the new favorite!

As far as what comes next, well, I’m not quite sure, but if one like your 7030 came along, it’d be hard to turn down!

How does it compare to the 8040?

My "collection" of one each of the GG Victory models with the Pat. Pend. reel seat. From left to right, 9660, 9053, 9050, 8642 and 8040. All are original except the 8642 which was redone over original wraps. I don't think the tip tube for the 9053 is original.

My closet is related to the Narnia closet...it’s a magical place, and you never know what you’re going to find in there.

This collection seems to change a bit year over year as new rods come my way, and others are let go to new homes elsewhere. Enjoying each rod for its own personality, but really like the the gaggle of Phillipson rods I've come by most; though the Dickersons are sure great rods to cast too.

Vintage rods:
Phillipson Peerless 7 1/2' 6 wt from 1972 (one of the last rods Bill Phillipson produced before 3M took over)
Phillipson Pacemaker 8' 5 wt
Phillipson Peerless 5 Dry Fly Special 8 1/2' 6 wt
Phillipson Paramount 9' 7 wt
FE Thomas Special Streamer 8 1/2' 5 wt from 1937
Granger Champion 8 1/2' from 1935/36
South Bend Double Built 264 9'

New rods from American made classic tapers:
Payne 97 7' 4wt (AJ Thramer blank built out by Dennis Hodges)
Garrison 212 8' taper by Steve Pennington
Granger 9043 5 wt (built by Dennis Stone)
Dickerson 7612 4wt, and 8013 5wt that I built from blanks by Gary Williams

My small, and heavily British, collection.
6' 4wt Hardy Palakona
7'2" 5wt Hardy Palakona
7'6" 5wt. Hardy Palakona
8' 6wt. Hardy "Deluxe"
8'6" 6wt. Hardy "Perfection"
9' 6wt. Hardy "C.C. de France"
8' 7wt. Orvis "Battenkill"

I mostly fish the 3 Palakonas, great brookie rods. I like the Battenkill but I don't get to enough big "browns" water.
I'm cautious with the CC de France as it dates to the 20s.
Tight lines!
Some days I fish, the rest are wasted

Updated version: I sold some stuff recently and feel like I've really fine tuned things to a point that I really do not need anything else (laugh now and later at me)

Graphite:
8' 4wt TMF
10' 4wt T and T Avantt (dirty big river, heavy fly nymphing rod)
8'6" 5wt Winston IM6
9' 5wt McFarland Tailwind (Super, super, super nice rod. The big companies can't touch this taper.)
9' 6wt T and T Avantt
9'6" 6wt McFarland Tailwind

Glass:
6'6" 3wt F2 (Creek Jesus, as it's know as)
7'6" 4wt McFarland Spruce Creek (Super smooth)
7'6" 5wt Kabuto (Jersey All Rounder)
8'6" 6wt Morgan Streamer Special (Super smooth)

Boo:
6'3" 3wt Penta one piece Sweetgrass
7'3" 4wt Penta Sweetgrass (Jersey All Rounder)
8'5" 4wt Hex Brandin Prototype (If I could only have one, this might be it)
7'6" 5wt Penta Sweetgrass
8' 5/6wt 4 0z Winston
8'6" 6wt Brandin Tournament Rod (Everything you've heard about this rod is true. Nicest casting rod I've ever held)

I have a couple of other randoms (nameless blank I built, cheap Payne 98 repro, nameless one piece 5wt), but this is basically it. My core collection. I feel proud of it.

This is a very cool rod and absolutely stunning. I beat the hell out of the East Branch and Neversink with it last year. Only got rid of it because I don't prefer swells.

I think i filled this out years ago

6' 2/2 3-4wt Paul french
6'3 3/2 2-3 wt Soeffker
7' 3/2 4wt Mark Edomonds cattanach taper
7' 4wt 2/2Hans Roeper "hunt" Made up to look exactly like a leonard hunt
7'3 2/2 4wt Sweetgrass Hex
7'6 2/2 5wt Simroe
7'6 2/2 3wt Simroe
7'9 3/2 4wt Blackburn
7'9 3/1 5wt BradforD
8 2/2 4wt munsey whebe. Leonard letter taper hollowed into the tips with a spliced joint. Smooth and slow.
8' 5wt 3/2 Dennis Stone Cascade
8 2/2 6wt Lancaster Bow River
8'3 2/2 4wt Raine
8'3 2/2 5wt Blackburn
8'5 2/2 4wt James Reid Light Trout
8'6 3/2 5wt Robert Bolt
9' 3/2 6 wt EC Powell. Bought the rod on ebay, no patent number on it but weights 4.9 oz. I think that would put it in the hollow category. Not sure if i am wrong or the patent number was removed during a refishing.

I have a 8'6 7/8 on order from James Reid. should have it in the fall. Now if only my kids would go back to school so i can fish. :)

Just joined. I started fly fishing in the late '80s. Somewhere along in that time frame I picked up an old bamboo. I have meant to rehab it but never had the time until now. It's nearly 9' and the only distinguishing mark anywhere is the written word " Webster " above the cork handle. I've never loaded it with line since no idea of what it might require but it is every bit as flexible as my shorter Sage 4wt graphite, if not more.
If it turns out to be a Montague Webster as I suspect I understand they're a mid range value nonetheless I like it visually if nothing else and would love to learn more about it if anyone knows something like Circa range and technical specifics, etc. thx much

A very modest collection;
9' 3/2 Hardy Fairy circa late 1920's. I fish it with a DT4 Phoenix silk.
7.5' 2/1 Sharpe's Featherweight from 1980. I fish this with a 5 weight single taper silk line from Zen Outfitters.
9' 3/2 South Bend 346 from 1949-50. I fish it with an unknown HDH silk line.

According to my log book, this insanity began on January 22, 2017 with the purchase of my second bamboo rod, the previously owned/unused Sweetgrass Mantra, which I still own and use. I had several fiberglass rods early on, then went all in on the bamboo, and recently picked up a few Fenwick Voyager travel rods from the 60s & 70s. I had also owned the G. Hammel for something like 10 years prior to the Sweetgrass, but never fished it until relatively recently.

Most of these are long gone - some sold to forum members, some purchased from forum members, but here is my complete list of bamboo rods that I have owned in this relatively short span. Yes, the list is heavily weighted with Orvis and you'll see a few tapers come and go and come and go again to fund the next "shiny object". I consider myself very fortunate to have taken care of a few scarce rods until someone else took over their care during this short time. I'll continue to care for a few until the next shiny object comes along, but a few I hope to be able to keep for the long-term. I miss several already and regret disposing of them for whatever reason.
