#581Loogie that’s a beautiful rod for beautiful fish, you are a lucky man.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.

#583Very nice, Lee! A lot different from our days at the Raritan Inn. We'll have to get together -- I need some steelhead tutoring from you.

#584Some hardy stuff. One from the nymphing fiesta and one from the dry fly hour / for the dry fly purist/.

#587It's all good man. I just always take the opportunity to highlight the absolutely asinine prohibition on this board against all things glass and graphite. And its rather haphazard enforcement. Apparently these days it's only time to lock or delete a thread when there is some actually helpful information being shared. You could post it in Classic Reels - even though those aren't made of bamboo either.LeeB wrote:My bad. Should have posted under "classic reels at work".
In all seriousness - that is a stunning fish. Nice work.

#588All I saw was a fantastic Dingley Perfect and one heck of a fish. Nothing plastic to be seen. Just natural cork and wood, a bit of metal what’s the issue. I love it Lee.

#590Spring has finally arrived in Southern Ontario. I’m going to swing some some flies for steelhead on the Niagara River this weekend with a vintage greenheart 1920 era Playfair 16 ft Grant Vibration spey rod. I’m pairing this rod with another classic, an 1852 era 4 1/2 inch Farlow brass salmon reel loaded with a vintage Hardy Filip silk WF line.
I adapted this floating line along with a braided silk leader into a controlled density sinking tip, approx. a F/I/S1/S3. This should get the 1/0 irons and brass or tungsten tubes down in front of the steelies.

#591It's only a dream for me with a winter storm warning in effect and most of the rivers are ice covered.

#592Good to see someone else swinging flies on the niagara. Good luck.

Re: What are you fishing this week?
#594We had a chance to meet up with Dave (Loogie) on that trip, what a great time with a great guy. The fishing has been good all winter, but this was our first really great dry fly day, with some early Quill Gordons, little Black Stones, and a few other bugs getting the fish to look up consistently. We had a nice hot lunch of tamales and chili, and just generally a great day. Hope to do it again soon! Here's Dave with another nice one:
A few others from the day, an ancient F.E. Thomas 7 1/2' 4 wt., 3" St. George.
Quick shot of our early lunch prep, sorry no shots of our meal, we were too busy eating it!

#595Lucky Guys.... we haven't be able to fish since Oct. due to the over abundance of water. Instead of 2-300 cfs, it's been more like 2-3000 or MORE, and rain, rain, rain. Lots of flooding in the South.

I want to be buried with my favorite rod.

#5977'6" Orvis Madison, Orvis Battenkill reel, 406 WF5 line. But the pic is from last year; had a few nibbles but to takers...
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)
