#1081still fishing the Norm Thompson/Farlows/Sharpes 7'10", with the Colonel's reel - a 3" Sharpes Gordon, the reel box has the Colonel's name written on it - with a 5wt line. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be a 6wt, still it throws the 5wt eagerly even with a salmonfly imitation lashed to the leader..

Re: What are you fishing this week?
#1085Brought my Orvis seven four and 8' 3/2 4 1/2 oz rod to the Strawberry River. The wind was higher than anticipated so I decided to fish my 8' using Phoenix DT6 silk on a Hardy Uniqua from the late forties/early fifties. Took my personal best trout (the 20"+ brown) and my personal best brook trout from the same pool on a size 18 Royal Wulff. Celebrated with a bit too much Scotch after returning home :-)
tight lines,
Joe

#1086Now that sir, is a day to celebrate! The scotch (or two or three) were well earned.

#1087This morning through midday: Mark Edmonds "Payne Parabolic" 7’9” 3/2 5/6wt and Abel Pt.5 reel with Cortland Sylk 5DT. Nice combo for black stoneflies & para hoppers.
This afternoon and evening: Jenkins GA803 8’ 3/2 4/5wt and Ross San Miguel-2 with Cortland Sylk 4DT. Sweet casting and fishing setup for red quills & parachute Adams.

Re: What are you fishing this week?
#1089They are rare in true LHW. I couldn't play these off of the reel as I have not yet got around to adding a standoff opposite of the pawl to make it a converible reel. I have the standoff and will make the conversion.

#1090A 7'9" quad from Cris Carpenter on a stream in my area before it gets sucked dry. The water is cold and plentiful and the fish are cooperative. The problem is the single track road to get there.

#1094Two rods designed for Stillwater. Both 8’3” hollow construction. I use a 6 wt and 7 wt lines on them.
Built the first one of this taper <20 years ago.

Re: What are you fishing this week?
#1095Took my Orvis Seven Four out with some Orange and Black hoppers that ibookje sent me. Jay, the hoppers fooled both browns and cutthroats. My best was a 15" cutthroat that was a beautiful pinkish orange. The seven four did well on these fish, but I should have brought a heavier rod for use with the hoppers. Also borrowed my buddy's Orvis Superfine Fly & Spin that I sold him and caught a nice brown with Jay's hopper on that rod as well.

#1096Finally got a cool morning and fished a tailwater that was running about 50 degrees at midmorning. My one fish smacked a #16 Olive Stimulator. The rod was an 8'6 Ed M. Hunter Approved made by Phillipson. I have two of them; I hadn't fished this one in about five years. Most of the pictures are freeze frames from a video.

#1097I use my '20s Uniqua as a LHW and it works just fine. The incoming click is very light, but outgoing is strong.flyty2 wrote: ↑07/07/21 16:12LHW? Are those rare?NewUtahCaneAngler wrote: ↑07/04/21 11:20Phoenix DT6 silk on a Hardy Uniqua from the late forties/early fifties.
