Nice Catfish - taken on a fly?
Yup. They seem to like black wooly buggers in this particular spot.
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)

Visiting friends in Michigan last week, I naturally wanted to fish Michigan rods. These little rainbows were clobbering Stimulators and parachute olive midges. My PHY Martha Marie is the heavier 6-weight version, and was too much rod for these little fellow y 8'3 L.C. Parks 4-weight was a better match.

I fished my 7' 9" Sweetgrass Mantra on the Yellowstone River and some of its tributaries in Utah.

Most of the fish were in the 6" - 8" range with only an occasional trout reaching 12"

Here are some of the better looking fish of the 30+ brookies, cutthroat, and rainbow trout caught.

There was plenty of water and it was cold too, so no worries about harming the fish. Fishing the tiny tributary made me regret selling my Orvis Flea as it would have been a better rod for this tiny creek.

Tight lines,
Joe

10' Halstead, throws a 6 weight silk so nicely. Size 16 dry fly or muddler minnow, no problem whatsoever.

Nice pictures and beautiful rods, trout and blue sky, all of which are scarce in southwest OR. Right now with lots of smoke and some of the streams down to a trickle. I have measured a couple times and stream was 68 F and another 70 F (I am sure the holes were fareing better.) Too warm to stress the fish even more by me fishing for them Air temps are a little cooler and the second half of September holds the promise of rain. We are all praying for the blessing of rain. Best to all, Paul in OR

I found a 9-foot Heddon with 3F ferrules for steelhead fishing. It's the 125 Expert, made by Heddon for Sears in the 1950s. I have been fishing it for several weeks on medium-sized fish and it is a joy to cast and fish with an 8-weight line.

Fished in CO earlier this month. Stayed in Salida and fished the Arkansas River plus made a day trip to a reservoir. My impregnated 8.5' Phillipson
Dry Fly Special (Peerless) saw a lot of time on the water. No Cutthroat trout, but here is the best Brown of the trip, a nice Rainbow, the biggest Brookie I ever caught, and--a 1st for me--Tiger trout.

We had a gorgeous Fall weekend here in Utah so my fishing partner and I fished a fly fishing only river. We didn't catch many, but I had a couple of decent days with 2 colorful cutthroats in the 14" range and brown that was closer to 15 or 16". I fished my Granger 8040 the first day and used my converted Orvis Rocky Mountain Fly (and no longer spin) today. The aspens were even more colorful than the cutthroat!

Super nice everyone! I haven't been able to fish as much in the last month or so, your pics and stories help keep me going!

I did however get out yesterday. Perfect water levels, great temps both air and water. Fall is slow to arrive this year. No surprise since we'll soon have summer all year!

Some brook trout were caught and released. Leonard 36 Catskill and a Leonard 44 reel.

This could be the last top-free excursion for the jeep this year.
