Re: 406 lines
#3I bought one to replace a Cortland peach 5WDT and it is a much better line. I use it on a PHY 7 /2 ft. Special. Great line.

Re: 406 lines
#4They are my preferred lines for bamboo rods. Better than cortland sylk or wulff lines, IMO.
Re: 406 lines
#5They are also also my preferred line of choice.
For my casting, they really turn over well.

Re: 406 lines
#6I won a high end 5wt cane rod in a raffle three years ago and asked the maker what line he recommended. He said he likes the 406 line on his rods. He also likes the Cortland Peach. I bought the 406 and I like it. I have tried that rod with Sylk and with Peach 5wts, and I prefer the 406.
Re: 406 lines
#7406 is a helluva good line. But I have trouble seeing that muted green color. Wish they made something like a peach color.

Re: 406 lines
#9Jeff,
They are my current favorite lines for bamboo and I highly recommend them. They feel similar to SA Heritage Ultra and Wulff Bamboo Taper lines which I also like. The 406 feels slightly thinner and shoots better than those lines. And the DT 406 enjoys a longer front/mid taper than the Wulff Bamboo for longer casts.
The DT5 is perfect on my EW Edwards Special.

Re: 406 lines
#10Fantastic lines! Their narrow diameter means they also work well in the wind and will go through smaller guides with ease. The best I have found yet on several cane and glass rods. One is an earlier line and the last few inches of the tip sinks slightly, but no issue with fishing dries at all. Tom has done a terrific job designing them. I can go out on a limb and say you will be very pleased if you pick one up Jeff.

#11I have tried every line out there and felt many were good...a few years ago I got my hands on a 406 and found that they made the rods I build cast better! I highly recommend these lines!

Re: 406 lines
#13Love my 406's!
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)
Re: 406 lines
#14I was able to cast several of the 406 lines at the 2015 Colorado Cane Conclave and bought several from Tom on the spot. I have quite a range of 406 lines now and fish them often; not exclusively but pretty close...
Re: 406 lines
#15They are great lines like everyone has mentioned. Their DT lines pair very well with the majority of rods I fish.
Re: 406 lines
#16had one fail in less than 2 years (Developed cracks over a 10' section about 20' back from the tip, I have had lines do that before but not that quick) not the line for me, back to the Wulff Triangle taper.

Re: 406 lines
#17I like the lines although I haven't fished them long enough to see how they hold up. I will say that the ones I have weigh similar to a Rio Gold - one a bit more, one a bit less. So the ones I have aren't "true to weight" as sometimes described. In fairness, most lines nowadays are in the upper end of their weight range.

#19I went through the process of casting various lines on all of my rods. The 406 and Wulff Long Belly/Bamboo are by far my favorite.

Re: 406 lines
#20A big fan as well. I always buy direct from Tom at 406 lines in MT, but other sources are good also. Same price everywhere. Highly recommended.
