Fishing around Greensboro, NC

What’s the fly fishing like around the Greensboro, NC area? Does anyone know of any good small wading creeks within a couple hours drive from town? I’m going to be spending a few days in Greensboro for business next week and I’m hoping to get some trout fishing in while I’m there.

Stone Mountain State Park is less than 2 hours. Don't know about current fishing conditions. Small streams. Easy access.

Stone Mountain is a good option but is also a very popular place for fly fishers from Charlotte. It's about an 80 minute trip from Charlotte so it gets pounded pretty good.

The Dan River is another option, north in Virginia between Talbott Dam and the Townes Reservoir, has some wonderful fly fishing. It's about the same distance if a little shorter with better fishing in my opinion. Waterflow is regulated by the Talbott Dam release schedule though...an important consideration.

And, it's far enough away from Charlotte, with equally good fishing in the NC mountains with more streams to choose from, that fly fishers from Charlotte generally won't pick the Dan over their own local streams up toward Asheville.

Considering all of the rain we've had lately, stream levels will most likely be high everywhere and the Talbott Dam may be in a continuous release mode. If that's the case then Stone Mountain may be your best bet.

Do get a license wherever you go.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! My plans however were altered due to all of the peaceful rioting going on right now. Had to deploy to a different location. No rest or relaxation doable right now but I’ll remember these locations for the future and again, many thanks for the help!
