orvis 8.5 ft rod question

#1

Post by bamboo rodley »

I was wondering if anyone could compare the 8.5 ft 4 3/4 oz. three piece rod taper to the rod of the same length and weight in a two piece version. I just recently purchased the two piece version, having previously owned the three piece, and loved the taper. Am hoping they are basically the same.
Thanks in advance.

Different animals. The 3 piece is a lighter taper and therefore would be slower with the same line. The 2 piece is great though. I fish mine with a dt7 peach line. Makes a really nice big water dry fly rod. The three piece you referred to is the 16/10 ferrule taper. The 17/11 ferrule 5 oz 3 piece is closer in action to the two piece.
Fishing with bait is like swearing in church.
