#22Please tell us what kind of water will you be fishing; tiny creeks or wide rivers? What size flies will you be throwing? How good a caster are you? How much would you like to spend? That will help us make better recommendations.
Best regards,
Bill Lambot

#23Interesting. Nobody recommends Para 15. Is it because many of them (and the copies) are perhaps more 5 1/2 weight rods? My favorites are Battenkill 8' 2/2 41/4 oz and Pickard 806.

#26I'm surprised that the Paul Young Para-15 has not been mentioned. Marty Keane and others consider it to be near perfect for nymph and streamer fishing. Me too.

#27I have two to consider. The first is an Orvis Battenkill 8' 2/2 6wt. The other is a Blackburn 8' 2/2 solid 6wt. The Orvis you may find for in and around $600.-$700. The Blackburn for around $2,000.

#28You might try to fine a Leonard 8ft. 6wt., Leonard made it in 2 piece and three piece and in the Duracane
I have a model 66 and a Duracane 8ft 6wt.

#29The nicest 6 weight I’ve ever fished was an EC Powell belonging to a friend.

#31The 8' 6wt is by far my favorite length and line weight combination. I am admittedly new to cane rods, but I have found the Orvis Battenkill 8' 6wt to be excellent. I actually like to fish a fiberglass 8' 6wt built by Chris Barclay that is fantastic, and it is what opened my eyes to this rod configuration. I recently got to fish a Winston 8' 6wt built during the Brackett era and it was something special.

#32It would be hard to beat a PHY Para15 for either of those applications…….

#33My Dickerson 801611 could throw some small bass bugs with the right line.

#34Congrats Kean. I’m sure you’ll love the rod, I have 2 a Battenkill and a Madison. Great all around rods, if you owned only 1 fly rod, you wouldn’t go wrong with an Orvis 8’ 4 3/8 oz Bamboo fly rod

Re: Recommendations for 8’, 6wt
#36I really like my T&T Montana. I primarily use it fishing larger rivers or still waters where the expectation is I might hook a big trout. It can cast a long line and casts well in the wind. The rod has allot of power in the butt section which really helps playing a larger fish. Like any 8' rod, it could mend line better.
Re: Recommendations for 8’, 6wt
#37Para 15 taper makes for a great rod, but and there is usually a but, it does not do well in the wind. I have a faithful copy I made of that taper and it gets used, but not if I am expecting gusting winds of 15 to 20 mph. The para-action will blow the line back in your face. I had to learn that the hard way on a bass pond. There is an alternate tip taper that does away with the para-action and makes it a better wind stick, but to me, for bass you are better served with one of the Dickerson tapers, which were designed for bigger water and windy conditions.
