I posted a short blurb in the fly tying section “biblical plague” thread about Cicadas and thought I’d expound here. I’ve included some photos that are not mine—I cut and pasted from the web:

These mighty little bugs are scrumptious. I cannot wait - our trout here love them.
That mini muddler is amazing... i want to eat it off the TV. Great idea.. thanks!

Getting ready.....

Nice!! I'll take a dozen please!! :D

I'm also in Maryland and I'm really looking forward to casting big bugs to trout and bass.
These flies came from pal William Heresniak at Eastern Trophies Fly Fishing. William has been distilling and refining the work of Walt Cary, Chuck Kraft, and a number of the classic bass bug makers to come up with some flies that are innovative, rugged, and catch fish. They really catch fish. The two in the center row are Japanese beetles. The splat is where it's at!

Those of you inclined to listen to podcasts would be interested in Tom Rosenbauer's last episode, when he interviews the world's foremost expert in Cicada hatches. It's the April 1 episode:

Just fast forward to 34:00

As SpongeBob would say, "I'm ready, I'm ready."
Sone of these guys have been waiting 17 years for another shot on the water.
