Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo?

Re: Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo?
#661My after work destination for the summer was primarily focused on the tunnel pools, named as such because it requires a bit of hands and knees time to make it thru the hawthorn without injury. But the rewards are wonderful cold water and some exceedingly fat brook trout. The pictured fish chased a 4" relative almost to the net, then crossed to the far side of the pool to inhale the PMD comparadun on the next cast. Love tiny streams and this one all but requires a 6' 4wt with good roll casting ability. Love this thread!
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.

#662Haven't hit my home brook trout streams since June, but this should give you an idea of what I've been fishing since the early 1970s....seldom was there room for a back cast, you had to become very proficient at point & shoot roll casting. My PHY Midge copy has been an absolute dream on these streams:

#663I’m so glad this thread got some traction again. I contribute to it every year as it is such an important part of my life. It’s wonderful to see all these pic’s of the many small streams we hold dear to our heart. As scarlet>fire said, small rods, wild fish, dry flies, getting lost in the woods, no crowds, and the occasional surprise of catching an 12 to 18 inch fish with a light bamboo rod makes the world feel right in that moment. The whole experience of fishing small streams makes me whole, it’s the only fishing I do now. Checking out a new stream tomorrow pics to come, Many thanks for sharing your streams and keeping this alive It’s my favorite thread!!!! (Maybe it deserves to be a sticky )

#669Did you have to file the foot of your Bougle to get it to fit?Greg Reynolds wrote: ↑08/14/21 20:36Streams in the Laurel Highlands are low after weeks of hot weather and minimal rainfall. I found just enough water to fish in this section of stream high on Laurel Hill Mountain. Surprising given its small size, Ernie Schwiebert mentions this stream in his book TROUT.

#672No, the reel mounts securely on this Orvis seat--but just. It could be a problem with other reel seats.

#674Beautiful new reel, orange caddis! A bonus to christen it on some beautiful new water. Headed out shortly to explore some new tiny water myself! Hope everyone is having a great long weekend.

#675Wonderful photos, guys. The beauty, as well as the fishing, is what this is all about. I'd rather not see the people I'm trying to escape from when I go on stream. Mobs, canoes, kayaks, guides...that stuff can get awfully distracting.

#676Fished a new (to me) small stream with my brother today. Just beautiful. Lots of small plunge pools and they were eating hoppers-all day. The trout were all wild brook trout and were mostly small (5-6") but we caught lots of them, enjoyed exploring a new stream, saw two bull moose on the drive through the mountains to get there and spent the day angling together. The brookie in the photo was by far the biggest, my brother landed/released him in a sweet pool with a small deadfall along it. Fished my Charlie Jenkins GL70 with Hardy Uniqua 2 7/8 and Zen Outfitters 1/2 silk 4wt line. Beautiful weather, great day.

#678Cheers to the return of months ending in R!!
Had a good visit with some Brookies that I haven't had the pleasure of chatting with since last Spring.
Went through 2 of these.
