I absolutely agree. I have no regrets at all.orange caddis wrote: That is sweet, not sure it matters how many fish you catch in places like that!

#643Well done - nice find and a gorgeous place to wander about... truly nice...
If I may ask, which rod gets the nod on this "tiny" water?

Re: Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo?
#644You may; I have two rods that I fish exclusively on the tiny waters. (actually they are the only rods I fish since all I fish is small water). First is a David Kenny 3 piece 6’ 3” that he made for the small streams I fish. The other rod is a Glenn Brackett two piece 5’ 9” rod. Both use either a 4 or 5 weight line. Both makers spent a lot of time asking questions about my fishing style, how I wanted the rod to feel what type of leaders I used, etc. I also sent pics of the streams I fish and one of them fished one of the streams with me. They are two distinct rods in every way except for size I guess. These are the reels I use as well. All are lined with a Wulff Long Belly Bamboo Special WF5. My choice of reel and rod I use on a particular day is based on aesthetics and how the rod feels in hand. Not very complicated I try to keep it simple and immerse myself in the beauty of fishing small streams.nativebrownie wrote:Well done - nice find and a gorgeous place to wander about... truly nice...

#646Another 39 days until general trout opens here. There are streams open now; but, most are froze or in the process of thawing. The pictures are beautiful. My small stream rod this season will be a Sweetgrass 6'9" Hex 3 weight. Time is going slow.

#651Streams in the Laurel Highlands are low after weeks of hot weather and minimal rainfall. I found just enough water to fish in this section of stream high on Laurel Hill Mountain. Surprising given its small size, Ernie Schwiebert mentions this stream in his book TROUT.

#654Greg - - the landscape is so lush that one would think it was springtime.
Nice combo! Is that the 6’,1piece superfine?

Re: Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo?
#656Love this thread- just now reading it for the first time. I love my local small streams and have made small stream angling a cornerstone piece of my fishing year, mainly for the reason you initially stated- as a haven away from the crowds. While I enjoy running across the occasional angler to say hello and see how the day is going, the crowds on some of the "name" waters are more than I care to deal with these days.
Aside from some solitude, when I think of my favorite small stream, I also love it because its in the woods for the most part, providing a comfortable mix of sun and shade. I love that a 7' 4wt is the perfect rod to cover it and I am grateful to have amassed a collection of them to choose from when fishing there. I love that the trout are all wild and will, for the most part, eat dry flies. I also love that the trout are small- a blend of primarily browns and brookies (with an occasional rainbow and even more rare cuttthroat) that average about 7-8". A big one here is 12" and I have heard of a 16"er but have not seen one.
I love the slower pace and ability to get lost in the day working my way on this stream. The lack of crowds allows for some leisurely angling, maybe stop to make a streamside cup of coffee at some point, etc.
There are lots of different styles of angling that I appreciate each year and fishing small streams with a light bamboo rod is near the top.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo?
#659Spent a couple of hours on my "home water" last night. Landed a handful, mostly very small. Just love being in the woods, nice and cool and quiet. There ended up being a small ball of red quill spinners above the water as I left. Love some tiny water. Cheers, Chris
