SB 59

I started work on a south Bend #59 for a friend today and found something I have not seen before.

As I cut the wraps it became apparent that there are 2 layers of thread. I have reworked a number of SB rods but have never noticed this, even on a Cross Doublebuilt. It appears to be entirely original.

Just curious - any observations ?

I’ve only rebuilt one SB 59, it only had one layer.
