Couple of 7’ 4wt rods my buddy and I made. Perfect for these smallish Upstate SC rivers.

The newest off my bench, an 8' 2/2 parabolic 4wt. A bit of an experiment with the ventilated grip and cork reel seat.

Made a new rod lately version 1.2

Hello Guys,

i made a new rod lately.

it is a hommage to the great iconic rodmaker from denmark who sadly stoped
rodmaking some years ago. But as you see, his rods are still around, his craft is alive
and inspires younger makers. My intent was not to copy, but to build it with my skills,
with deep appreciation, clean, straight, a rod for the bank, not for the showcase

8ft, #2-3
Sleeved Bamboo Ferrule (reinforced with dyneema)
Agate, Walnutroot

i made a little presentation video
https://youtu.be/OHHgUfoytE4

and also a small "making of"

My first rod. I started with a pre-beveled kit. It’s a Payne 100 7’6” 4wt. It’s a little ugly but it will fish. I’ll start with raw cane for the next one.

Lee, not bad for a wrap-flattening amateur hand planer! I love fishing a little rod like that occasionally, like casting a fly swatter. The champagne cork looks swell.

Nice, Lee! I especially like the winding check nose cone wrapping, a la Phillipson.

I had a lot of fun fishing a 5'5" Marty DeSapio rod this year. It came in handy, because the vegetation on the headwaters streams I frequent was incredibly and unusually full and lush all season.

"Covid19" era build, my rod #150, based on PYoung's "Midge". 6'3''#4. Flamed bamboo, finished with 20 coats of polyurethane glue. Homemade snake guides, darkened with flame. Homemade nickel silver ferrules, darkened with chemicals. Bronze reel seat hardware, darkened.

Great looking rod, Jan96. Kentucky Jim just finished and sent that same rod to me. I love that older reel. Do you mind sharing what reel it is and size? Thanks, Barry

Wow Munsey, that is an awesome build!
...as for us we pin our faith and fealty to the silk-wound PENTAGONAL rod cunningly yet simply devised of its FIVE subtle, individual triangular strips of cane throughout...

Thank you Barry :) This is a Tokoz reel, a very cheap and not built very well. These reels were produced in Czechoslovakia in 1950/60-es... I got them from my father who used them as fly reels although they were meant for other types of fishing.
