Clark and Finney fly rod

#1

Post by brooktrout boy »

Hi All,
A conversation has started about a Clark & Finney fly rod. It appears to be a catalog rod and has the look of a Heddon. Is anyone familiar with the history of that company?

thanks-Jerry

retail store
Clark & Finney Sporting Goods, Inc.
White Plains. NY
incorporated 6/6/1984
dissolved early 1992

Edit: The above is from the NY Sec'y of State records. It seems, however, that Clark & Finney may have been in White Plains as early as the 1940's and later may have had stores in Yonkers and elsewhere in Westchester County, NY.

That rod, since re-listed, is clearly pre-WWII. If the OP supplies a photo or two of his rod, it could likely be dated.

The Model 1307 wasn't offered by Shakespeare after WWII. The "Premier" was still offered after WWII, but it was renumbered the Model 1308. The Shakespeare decal is also pre-war. I'm referring to the one on eBay, of course. Without seeing photos of the OP's rod, it's simply conjecture.

I remember Clark and Finney in White Plains when I was a kid. Great business.
