Asking for help with a Pezon rod date of production

#1

Post by Low-and-Slow »

Hi,
I would like to find out when my Pezon rod has been made. It is a parabolic Saumon, 10 1/2 feet long and the ID numbers are 1326117.
I have tried to look up the info about this topic in the forum archives but somehow this number does not make sense to me.
Your help is much appreciated.
Low-and-slow.

Pezon & Michel "Darling" series
From 1900 to 1940, Pezon & Michel was the French importer of the US brand Horrocks-Ibbotson. These 3-section rods, 10' and 11'6 with two tips were packaged on a wooden plate.

Between 1934 and 1936, some British Milward rods were also imported in France. These 9' and 9'6 3-section rods with two tips were named Thalia, Themis, Diana or Davis.

Rods with only one split bamboo component
Two rods series have associated split cane to a modern material. With the Variopower series, a bamboo tip is matched to a fiberglass butt section, bringing more power to the rod. With the Vinci series, a bamboo butt brings power while a carbon tip insures the accuracy.
Variopower: 7'1 - 7'9 - 8'2 - 8'8 - 2x1 (1967-75) Vinci: 6'10 - 7'3 - 7'10 - 8' - 8'3 - 8'4 - 8'6 - 2x1 (1990-91)
There is also the Robuste Royale in 3-section, 1 tip, manufactured in 1930. This rod, made of solid bamboo, is equiped with a split bamboo tip.

Thank you for the info. I would guess that makes my rod a salmon fly made in 1971, code 326, length 11.

That thread is one of several examples I've seen that we should have a forum bracket just to store these. This kind of information is too valuable to let slide away and lost. Very well done.

Using the pre 1970 code 1326117 would mean the 17th rod finished on February 13, 1961.

My Dad recently gave me a Pezon Michel bamboo fly rod. It was presented to my uncle in Orleans France in 1965 by General Joseph Heiser for service to the American Boy Scouts in France, this is according to a note that was in the case that my uncle had written. I can't seem to pin down the date of this rod, no serial number. Any help would be much appreciated. Information on rod is: Ritz Super Parabolic PPP / Master Type Lambiotte / 2.52m - 8' 3" / 142 of 5 oz. / Made in France. F 65 is at the base of rod. The certificate in the case reads: Reference CS-264-S / F65 / Ritz Superparabolic PPP Master / 8' 3"
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. The information may be right in front of me but i don't have enough knowledge or information to decode it.

The Master (Type Lambiotte) was built in 1954-93 (per the listing above). Since yours was presented in 1965, it was made between 1954 and 1965. I don't exactly know what "F65" means, but I have seen P&M rods with the last 2 digits of the serial number marked on the 3 pieces. Maybe "65" means 1965.

This is actually a very nice rod, able to handle a 5-weight line more delicately than the Fario Club. Your father made you a nice present.

On Ted Goldens extensive list of Pezon et Michel, I don't see this rod listed that belongs to a friend of mine from his step dad.

Ritz Vendome FFP, HS/HL, 7ft 2 inch, 2/2, 3 7/16oz from the Amboise factory of Pezon et Michel
Original red bag and tube. The bag tag and outer tube sock is missing

A note with it, This rod, a "Ritz Vendome FFP" still sparkles from its limited use, is one of the best designs by Charles Ritz and is of the highest grade made by Pezon et Michel.

Hello,
About '' Ritz Vendôme'' Rod :

Not Ritz Vendome FFP but. . . . . Ritz Vendome PPP

Image Image Image

Image Image Image

This fabulous rod was produced in very limited numbers by Pezon & Michel in around 1966 for the American market and sold only by Norm Thompson.
This rod is exceptional for many reasons!
First of all its aesthetic different from other rod PPP.
The ligatures are not green with a red border, but they are garnet red with gold edging.
Another very large difference ---> The particularity of PPP rods is to have 2 pieces of different length.
The '' Ritz Vendome '', although being a PPP, has the 2 pieces of identical lengths.
(this rod is the only one PPP made of 2 pieces of the same length )
The action of the rod is different from what P & M usually does.
The Vendome has a somewhat faster action as preferred by American fishermen.
Owning a '' Ritz Vendôme PPP 7'2 '' is a very good chance.
To fish with this rod is a real pleasure!

If so, would you happen to have taper numbers for this rod perchance?

I have a PeM Telebolic salmon spinning rod. The interesting thing is that the date of manufacture was 26th April 1944. So, while the Allied troops were busy practising amphibious landings and the Resistance were assembling the explosives used to blow up bridges the following week, in Amboise it was business as usual.

Clive
