#28Still need a couple more years to represent. PM me if you can help. Also, catalog listings for all bait casting and salt water rods from 1924 to 1954 are available upon request.

#30Look for the South Bend "Catalog Listings" thread to be completed in the near future, obviously with a different image-hosting service. Thanks for all your past support.

#34This is great. I have my father's (1916-1988) Model 291. Incredible to see it in the 1950 catalog, for $15.00! He got it new in the 1950's when we lived in CA. When I was 8 years old, I broke the tip while he was untangling my brothers fishing line. He was not happy. It sat for 25 years, I sent it to South Bend as a young teenager to try and mend things, when dad was still alive. They said something like "no more bamboo, sorry" Years later, sent it to my friend Jay Edwards in CO, who is a great bamboo builder, and contributor to this website. Jay made a new section for it. I now fish it in MT here where I live and have caught many trout on it. Would of loved to give it back to the old man. I want to thank Jay for bringing this back to life. Means a lot to me. Thanks wrong66 for all the history, tech info, and beautiful catalog pictures.

#35The No.291 is a very desirable model. That it was your father's personal rod makes it priceless. Thanks for the photos.

#37Mark,
Do you have anything showing a model #25, 7.5’, 2/2 South Bend/Cross double built?

Re: SOUTH BEND Fly Rod Catalog Listings, 1924-1954
#39Hello,
I inherited a South Bend Rod No. 59 from my Grandfather many years ago. I have held on to it all these years and have now decided to take up fly fishing at age 65. At first, I did not want to use it but I know he would want me to. It does not have a scratch on it and has the original sock and tube. Did it come with a reel? I can't find one. I would like to purchase an original reel if there is one. Any help would sure be appreciated. I would really like to put an original reel with it for keepsakes.
Thanks!

#40They didn't come with a reel, which were sold separately. In our Classified section, make a WTB listing. You should get some action for an appropriate reel.
