W&M Granger tapers

The exchange of tapers forum is for classic and personally developed tapers. The definition of classic tapers are those tapers that were developed by rodmakers that are no longer alive. Please understand that rod makers who have developed their tapers, and are active in the community, should not have their tapers cloned, or shared, without their permission, please refrain for asking for those tapers as it infringes on the maker.

Mike;
Take a look at those tapers again and see if maybe you want to change the designations.

I agree--perhaps 9043 as 5 weight, and 9050 as 6 weight were the intention in the tapers listed above; thanks for listing them. I think I could make a 9053 to throw a 5 weight line with enough line in the air, but it wouldn't occur to me to call it a 5 weight; more of a 7, no? Tom Goodmann

I?ve been researching & cataloging all of the 9? Granger tapers & information I could get my hands on in the last week or two; from RodDNA, Rodmaker?s Listserv, On-Line Hexrod, David Ray?s collection, Ray Gould?s ?Tips & Tapers? & Michael Sinclair?s ?Restoration Handbook?, and a few rods I have measured myself. According to Sinclair there were only 3 Granger 9? tapers, all of which were 3 piece rods: 9043 (9? 4 ¾ oz. 6wt.), 9050 (9? 5oz. 6wt.) & 9053 (9? 5 ¾ oz. 7wt.).- The names indicating length and rod weight. I have seen quite a few misnomers from the available sources listed above - like 9063, which is probably indicating a 9? 6 weight 3 piece from whoever measured the taper? Also, I?ve seen a lot of the listed tapers with the Grade name, i.e. Victory, Special, Aristocrat? I believe the tapers the Mike listed above are the 9053 & the 9050 respectively; they are also the tapers and names listed on David Ray?s Taper Archive. I have yet to find a taper I believe to be the 9043, which may be a bit rarer ? I don?t know? I do know I see alot of the 9050?s & a few 9053?s listed on eBay on occasion, maybe someone with a little more Granger background that I could pipe in.
