Howdy!
This guy is asking $275... I own a couple of nice antique bamboo fly rods, this looks like a decent find... maybe?
Herters Bamboo Fly Rod
Made in England
8' 2/2 4/5 wt.
Model R.H.S.C.
Original Sock, no Tube
Clean rod that shows normal wear
Ferrules are nice and tight with a good Pop
Nice smooth loading Rod, Lawn tested well with a 4wt.
Cork has been cleaned and polished
1 guide on one tip section has been replaced at one time , wrap color darker (see pic)
Tip sections look factory except one is 1/2" short
Question: If a tip section or butt section is short, was it probably broken at one time? If a butt section is 2.5" short, was the butt section probably broken at one time?
Thanks!!!

#2Hi Guys, Some of the Herters rods had marked Super Z ferrules. They were all good, fishable rods. Short sections usually indicate breakage. A short butt always has been broken. However, some English made rods had tips an inch or so short. I'm not sure about the Herters. Others will comment on value.

#3Since the one tip is short you could assume that a previous owner liked to break things. Put the longer tip and butt together and measure the rod. Is it 8'0"'s? If not then the butt was also broken.
I don't have a PhD, but I do have a DD214.

#4I could have sworn the 8' Grand Deluxe St.Albans was something on the order of a 6 weight...?
Re: Herters Bamboo Fly Rod / 8' 2/2 / 4/5wt.
#5All of that and More. The few I have cast were more a 6/7 than a 4/5.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.

#7Not always. A P&M Fario Club, for example, has staggered ferrules, with the butt considerably shorter than the tip.bluesjay wrote: A short butt always has been broken.

#8……..Apparently this particular Herters rod is NOT a St. Albans.Shrimpman wrote:I could have sworn the 8' Grand Deluxe St.Albans was something on the order of a 6 weight...?
