My great grandfathers fishing rods

This is the board to ask about the identity, or for an appraisal, of a rod. Please use the outline as explained on the board. If there is a makers name, list that in the subject line. Make sure you include the length, number of sections, any identifying markings and the general condition. Adding photographs is always helpful!

Post by Bmarc »

Happy new year!!! A few years back I was given two of my great grandfathers bamboo fly rods. I intend to give one of them to my father in law.

First Rod. Granger Aristocrat
4 pieces with the extra tip. Pieces are equal length.
9’ assembled
Bag sheath

Second Rod. No marking
4 pieces with extra tip
No cloth sheath
9’ assembled.
Slight difference in piece length.

Both are in metal cases. First rod is unknown. The second is the granger. Image

The Granger is a fishing rod, the other IMHO, a wall hanger. If your FIL is an angler, the Granger would likely make him happy.

The other rod was made in Japan after the war. Little monetary or fishing value. More of a souvenir.

I will give him the Granger. Thank you for the information. Challenge accepted. I’ll post a picture of me catching something with the Japanese rod. Happy New Years!
