Identify two Hardy Fly rods

This is the board to ask about the identity, or for an appraisal, of a rod. Please use the outline as explained on the board. If there is a makers name, list that in the subject line. Make sure you include the length, number of sections, any identifying markings and the general condition. Adding photographs is always helpful!

Identify two Hardy Fly rods

#1

Post by doneill »

Hi, I know this is a bit of a long shot, a friend left around a set of Hardy Cane Rods, most have enough markings to identify the rod/date, etc. However two of the rods have no marking on them, I'm hoping that someone in the forum is familiar with them.

The first has serial number mark C47599, it is in a cloth bag with 2 tips.

The second has a Hardy W fitting, has number 10 written on the butt, is a 3 piece with 4 tips, no serial number.

Thanks in advance,

The first one is a double-handed spinning rod with "tulip" tip tops.
The second is a very old fly rod.
A few more detailed photos would be good.

BTW, is the spinning rod actually made of greenheart?

They are definitely antiques and the fly rod appears to be in great shape for it's age, may have been refinished at one point. Unfortunately they will probably make better man-cave wallhangers than fishing tools. Cool fly rod, though!

How many slots are in the fly rod sock? Would like to know if it was made originally with that many tips. This rod may have broke the record for number of tips, especially for a Hardy!
