#2Great question. I look forward to the responses. I almost always put tube caps in my right front pocket and leave them there till I’m ready for it again.

#3Two things, first is I put it in the reel pouch that is now empty because I'm using it and two is to drill a hole in the cap and another in the tube and pop rivet a length of bead chain to each. Now you probably don't want to drill holes in your Payne tube but I tend to leave those tubes at home and use PVC for day trips. Livingstone.

#4If it's a Heddon tube with one of the hardened-up rubber compression fit caps, lock it in a safe!
Yes, PVC travel tubes are your best friend.

That is a great idea. You do have to be wearing pants to pull it off though...

#7Lol Brian. I usually have pants on. But there are dozens of ways this line of thinking could go and none of them paint a pretty picture.

#8I've never lost a tube cap but I'm anal about those things. I'll put the cap back on before I do anything else. I have been tempted to superglue a plastic hook loop on the cap and tube with a bead chain attached. My old Berkeley fiberglass rod from the early 70's came like that. The plastic tube is all cracked and broken around the plastic tube collar but darn that little bead chain is still attached!!
Quite frankly though, I transport my rods to and from the stream in PVC or ABS plastic plumbing tubes that I make myself with parts from Home Depot. The black ABS tubes are particularly tough and if I lose a cap I can make another one for a couple of bucks.

#14pyochim,
Is this better?
I like tube caps and try my best to manage them well!
It's probably best not to have the "A" word and "tube" in the same sentence...at least, not around here.

#17Lay the cap on the car seat so that it will at least be in the car if you forget to put it back on right away.

Re: Tube Cap Top Loss Prevention Techniques -
#18I've never lost a tube cap either. As soon as I put the rod together, I put the bag back in the tube and put the cap back on as well. When I finish fishing, I take the rod apart, wipe it down and put it back in the tube and put the cap back on the tube.
If I were to ever lose one, it would likely be at home, because I leave the caps off the tubes. I have all my tubes in canvas tube-bags. I reverse the tie down flap on the bags and tie it to the tube and then slide the cap in the pocket created by tying the flap back onto the tube.

#19I was helping my wife on a project that involved Velcro peel and stick squares and thought it may work to store caps. I put a square on the cap and on the tube. Take the cap off and stick it to the tube. It seemed to work well. Not sure about long term use but I will be giving it a try.

#20the cap goes in my shoe since I always put waders on before putting rod together
