My fishing is at its bleakest with no baseball...

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Anyone else feel remotely the same ?

Fortunately, my cable tv has an all cricket channel, and cricket is played somewhere year round. (It's between innings in Hobart vs. Perth T20 match in the Australian Big Bash League as I type this.) As long as someone is playing with bat and ball and scoring runs, I'm happy.

Now fishing as a child just learning when they told me to throw the rod like a baseball worked fairly well, except when the rod got thrown into the water & had to go pick it from the water. Little did I know dragging the rod out of the water where at the end of the line a piece of yarn had been tied on was a hornpout ! Lift it off the ground & it would flop back into the water ! Got good throwing it like a baseball for catch & release....

Sadly, if you're a hardcore San Francisco Giants fan like I am, you've been without baseball for awhile. The team owners now seem more content with investing money in a proposed hotel/shopping complex next to the Giants' stadium, than putting together a contending team. Since the Giants' amazing run from 2010-2014, they've been one of the worst teams in baseball. Normally, the beginning of spring training lifts my spirits and also hints that trout season is not far away. To hear our Giants announcers once again on the radio is like music to your ears. Now, it's excruciating knowing they haven't done a darn thing over the winter again to improve their team, even though they're one of the richest franchises in sports. Say it ain't so, Joe. Go Niners!

Not a baseball fan here. I don't even know who won the World Series. But I do like college hoops. My fly tying area is set up so that I van watch a game and tie at the same time.

Besides, Baseball season coincides with fishing season.

College football coincides with birds hunting so it's all good.
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)

Harry;

If LSU shows us tonight what they've shown all year, they just might. If they don't bring their "A" game, it could be different.

Brian;

As for baseball, I played it in grade school, high school and on community adult leagues well into my 40's. It's like fishing for me. I love to do it. Don't like to watch it on TV. Don't care much for TV, period. :) I'd rather tie flies!

I'm good but college football interferes with my fall steelhead season. My school - NDSU - just won it all for the 8th time in 9 seasons. The final this year was thrilling more than most. They lost their chance at a consecutive run of national championships when they lost the semi in 2016 to the eventual victors (JMU). That's been their only playoff loss since 2011, and they've avenged that semi loss twice (retaking the national champ title at the '17 season finale and keeping it through '19 this weekend).

I really do enjoy professional baseball, but have to watch History Channel programs between pitches. The games could be shortened by twenty minutes if they cut the Velcro off of the batting gloves. Do the math.....

Brian, only a month to go before spring Training starts!

PYochim, the Washington Nationals won the 2019 World Series, winning a record 5 elimination games in the playoffs. Go Nats!

Harry, the CFP National Championship game is a heckava game tonight!

Nate, I thought JMU (my son's alma mater) was gonna tie the game there in the last 16 seconds.

bluesjay, the Washington Capitals beat the Carolina Hurricanes tonight 2-0.

Brian - Not sure if you get it down there in SW MO but Fox Sports Midwest occasionally plays Cardinal highlight games from the 2019 season during the winter. Or do what I do, watch the Blues light it up. They play the Flyers tonight on NBCS, but most of their home and away games are on FSMW. If they stay healthy and get Tarasenko back, they should have another good shot at the cup.

Baseball has been bleak for me the past two years, watching morons dismantle my team in Baltimore. Still moving to Hancock from southcentral, Pa I had to buy MLB TV so I could watch the games this year. The nice thing is I can fish every evening if I want and watch the game after fishing or early the next morning.

Baseball aside, my fishing is at its bleakest when there ain't none...

When baseball is not being played, I derive the same amount of pleasure matching my socks. I feel the same way about golf.

There is nothing as lovely as a golf course gone fallow.
