Oldest known

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Film, movie etc.. about fly fishing or showing fly casting. Specifically casting techniques. I tried some searches but my Google-Fu isn't working.

I certainly don't know oldest, but got me thinking of my first experience with hunting and fishing films.

I remember in the 1950's going to local movie theater and a gentleman called Wally Taber would show and narrate films on his outdoor adventures. As a young kid I still remember him dressing up to match his adventures.

Sorry if not exactly about fly fishing.

Well, drat, as they used to say. I was hoping to see if (or not) casting techniques of today were quite different back in the day.

Well, not as old as I was hoping:

Not the oldest, but this has some fly fishing in the Cascades from the early 1930s.

Here is another one about Montana in the 1930s with a fly cast at 0.22, and shows landing a fish at the end.

Here is one about fly fishing in Canada in the 1920s.

There is more catching than casting, but this dates back to 1900. Watch the guy on the rocks above his fish catching friend below - amazing he didn't bite it when he slipped a bit....

Awesome! As I thought not as "fancy" as today with multiple casts, mostly just a single cast. Quite the "rigs" they used.
