#2It looks to me as something to do with a ski lift. (?) Or perhaps something to do with a mining or logging operation. Strange.

#7Clearly a breathing tube for the troll that lives inside the mountain.

#8They are quite common in the west. It is a Continental Drift Check, and an older one at that. The newer ones are discs.

#10I was told it was an avalanche preventer, it is connected to a gas line, the make it go off in the winter to make small avalanches. Haven't confirmed it, the drift check sounds plausible as well. Mystery continues!

#11Is it on an unstable slope in a populated area? I was thinking maybe a slide warning device... ?

#14A Google search reveals that it likely is a Gazex avalanche control system that uses these specially constructed "exploder" sites and tubes to set off avalanches at controlled times. They detonate a mixture of oxygen and propane from these tube structures, and the explosion triggers the avalanches. Apparently, it's a cooperative program by Colorado DOT and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, and two of the sites where these are located at Berthold Pass and Loveland Pass.
