Unusual Ogden Smiths Rod Tube

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Unusual Ogden Smiths Rod Tube

#1

Post by Mahseer »

Something else from my neighbour's collection: a staggered aluminium Ogden Smiths rod tube. It's stamped top and bottom with their marks, looks like a telescope, and appears to be for a 2 piece 10 foot rod. It was acquired empty, alas.

We've never seen anything like it. The nearest thing in our Ogden Smiths catalogues is a leather covered, tapered brass tube for their Warrior rod range. We wondered whether it is the product of only short lengths of tubing being available during post war shortages but it seems unlikely that they would have picked up the precise diameters for this close tolerance staggered construction that way.

Can anyone tell us anything about it?

My guess would be repurposed war surplus salvaged tubing too.
