Royal Wolf Lodge

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

2020 was out, but it looks like its' a go for 2021. I'll start work the first week in May and work into October. https://www.royalwolf.com/ I'll be primary grounds and facilities maintenance, leaning towards aircraft maintenance and gopher pilot for parts, pieces, supplies and beer runs.

Kermit, sounds like a great time! I’m jealous.
I’ve been enjoying that beautiful flamed quad that you built.
What will be your quiver for up there?

Dan, that is awesome. I know you were a little bummed about last year.
So it looks like you are going to be a plane & trout bum for a while?
The Carl Spackler of trout?

I guided in AK for 8 years. It is a total grind but I would not trade the experience for anything.

Be careful who you trust - keep your cards close to your chest and learn the lay of the land with the people and management - the dynamics at a lodge can be a bit dysfunctional and a bit of low-level hazing of new employees is the norm. Even if you aren’t young.

With respect to fishing many lodges do not allow their employees to fish a whole lot especially the maintenance staff. Many do not let guides ever fish with clients. If you haven’t already it might be good to have a frank discussion with your employer about this. Our maintenance staff were only allowed to fish infrequently and in very limited areas near camp.

The job is about way more than fishing not trying to discourage but hoping to enlighten a bit about the realities.

Good luck -

John
