Five years after American physician Jonas Salk at the University of Pittsburgh introduced a vaccine for polio, in 1960 an oral polio vaccine (the “sugar cube”), developed by virologist Albert Sabin, came into wide use.

Didn't get done in time for my First Cousin Michael Heyde who died of Polio
at the age of 7 in August 1953.

Jonas Salk was a saint. He freely shared his discovery, seeking no fortune for his efforts. These kind of people have vanished.
