#21Forgot to mention the total cost for the exhaust system and 2 hours of labor was about $1,000. You have a 2 into 1, or a dual exhaust, but $5k still seems a bit high.

#22SalmoNewF,
Looks like we have twins! I like that you have the original 1971 style TR-6 decal on the back quarter panel. Most folks go with the Union Jack decal. Love the spokes too! My girl is basically original save for the aluminum wheels and electronic ignition.

#23I was lucky enough to afford a new outback last year. A fishing friend had left me some cash in his will, and a car is one I can write off. Done. My style is usually some rusted out Ford Ranger--what a friend calls a "poop" truck---that you can fix with a hammer and a pair of pliers. The yuppies talk to me now!
Re: Automobile prices- Holy moly.
#24I had a chuckle at an ad for Ford trucks that was pushing the joys of "custom ordering" your new Ford truck, as opposed to the reality of having to wait months for your truck because there are few on the lots.

#25I've ben eagerly waiting for the new, much delayed Tundra to debut, but it looks like I'll have to wait another year or two the way things are going. Now I'm just having to get used to the way the new design looks. Good news is that my old Toyotas seem to be gaining in value in the meantime. BTW, I had a 1952 MG TD Mk2 in my teen years, metal over wooden body and all. Lot of work to keep it going, but what a great car.

#26Heck, a few months? That's nothing. I ordered my Tesla Cyber Truck on X-mas day 2019. It was my X-mas gift to myself. I spoke to them in December of 2020 and they stated "Maybe " by the spring of 2022. We'll see. I'll keep ya posted.

#29I've been a fan of Datsun roadsters since the early 1970s. Here's my 1970 Datsun 2000 (135hp; 5-speed) I just got back Friday from several years in storage. Runs and drives like a 51-year-old champ!

#30Love the old British sports cars, and the Japanese derivatives too. I was 16 when the TR6 came out in 1969 and already into car mags at least. One of the magazines had a British Racing Green TR6 with chrome wire wheels on the cover and I was enamoured. It took me a long time to get a TR6 and the route led through an MG Midget, a Spitfire and a TR7 convertible plus marriage and mortgages but I finally got one. By pure coincidence it was BRG and had chrome wire wheels. Mine is a car for fun rather than everyday driving but I love every minute of it. Have done a number of long runs on these early fall days, storing up memories for our long cold and wet winter.

#31Flyman,
Wow, you don't see a Datsun 2000 very often! Those cars were fairly performance oriented in their day. Then the 240 Z hit the scene.
Cool car indeed.

#32I had a Datsun 2000 in 1974 that I rebuilt and had repainted, it was a firebreather. It did have a very cheap interior though. It was a fun car.

#33Boy, I would have loved to have had one of them back in collage some 60 years ago But then again, I would have probably flunked out.

#34I had an old Sunbeam Alpine in college, the babes loved those convertibles. The SU carbs needed almost constant attention. I loved that car.

#35Thanks! Yes, you'll see way more 1600 4-speeds. They are OHV but only about 95 hp. The 2000s are much more spirited cars with then-seldom-seen 5-speed and an Overhead Cam. The 2000s were raced a lot by Bob Sharp and Pete Brock.
I found mine in 1985. I've had a total of three Datsun roadsters starting with a very rare 1963 1500 Fairlady. It had three seats; 4-speed "crash box"; 13" wheels.

#36Back in the late 50s early 60s, my HS grad years (1962) my B-I-L had a Triumph TR3. We'd ride it 40 miles or so to Oswego Drag Strip, tear it down and tape it up for drags, he'd almost always take a trophy in his class. We'd then put muffler back on, pull tape off, and ride it back home. Would love to have that in the driveway now.

#37When I hear MGB, I think of Steve Prefontaine's '73 model that he flipped and tragically died in...
Looking at the new Ford Broncos...loving what I'm seeing but $40K for the 4-door base model? uff-da
Re: Automobile prices- Holy moly.
#38I recently bought a Honda odyssey at a dealer, the price was only about $3,000 less than a new one, but the vehicle had very low mileage. The good thing was that the trade in value on my older minivan was so high that it offset some of the higher price on the new {to me} vehicle.

#39Bought a 68 MGB in August 1968. Still have it 53+ years later. Still have the original Lucas alternator and starter on it.
