Where are the dogs?
#242Jeez. I’m sorry for your and your family’s loss Ryan.
Heartbreaking photos, but also beautiful memories.

#243Yes, there is a hole torn in our hearts when a dog leaves us. As time goes by, we only remember the good times, and are able to heal. A new dog helps tremendously. I feel for all you guys.

#244Ryan, your last photo is all telling. Sorry to read about Boomer. Fortunately the good memories overshadow these as time goes on.

#245So much for being a "one dog" household. We picked up this (not so) little girl this morning. She's 15 months old and obedience trained. She's a little shy but settling in nicely. Nikki (our other dog) is at hunting school for a month. It will be interesting when she returns as she is an alpha female. I'm sure they will find middle ground.
I'm told that when looking for the eyes on these long haired dogs if you only find one, you're looking at the wrong end.

#246Gorgeous dog! My wife has been bugging me to get a "friend" for our/her dog, Max the Wonder Dog. I said I thought that's what I was!

#247Lovely pup! Nikki will and the new girl will work it out.
And thanks to all for the sentiments on the loss of Boomer. There's a big hole in our family, but I think we need a little time before another pup comes home. Babies are still in diapers ya know...
Funny how often my hand instinctively goes to pet him on the head, only to touch a ghost...

#248Here is my girl “Goose”. She is a Braque du Bourbonnais. I normally get a weird look about now, so I just follow it up with “French pointer”.
Her is a pic from her first pheasant hunt, which lasted 20 minutes. I was convinced that I was ruining her, as I had no idea how to train a dog. First day out at 10 months old, 2 beautiful rock steady points, limit filled.
I was very proud of my dog and myself at that point, until an uncle who is a very experienced trainer brought me down a rung or two with this comment....”Take no credit, you didn’t teach her shit - god teaches them that”.....lol
Fantastic breed. Best family dog I’ve ever had, best hunting dog I’ve ever had.
Hmm.....adding the pic is beyond me I guess.

#249Photobucket has broken all of their links, your links, my links, etc., and the only way for you to be able to post via photo sharing to this form is to pay them $400 per year. Postimage.org works fairly simply for me and some others, but there are also other photo hosting sites that have not put the big screws to we forumers.

#254Thanks for comments, really a neat dog. Still working on fishing with her...if we aren't hunting she doesn't listen to me - I lay a fly down, she likes to go in after it.
Loogie - I'm a Browning guy. That is a modern(ish) A-5, I think from about 1990? It's my daily driver.

Re: Where are the dogs?
#256Hi folks -
Sad to add another post to the thread, but we put our old Rhodesian Ridgeback Modjo to sleep on Saturday night. We feel like we did it at just the right time, and that gives us some consolation. Much better a day too early than a day too late. He had 13 years and 8 months of good health; we couldn’t have asked for more. He "worked" in my retail store up until his very last day greeting customers and generally being a character.
Here's a shot of him living the rough life at home just a couple of weeks ago:
Luckily, we have an excellent backup Ridgeback named Kiko who just turned 2 last summer. He's clearly on his way to becoming a natural fish hound.

#260Thanks Ryan - I know you're going through the same thing. Time will heal; and in our case, a younger dog to distract us helps a lot.RyanAK wrote:Peace to you and your family, Keith. It's never easy.
